Is there such a thing as a smartphone with somewhat modern specs - I don't need top of the line, but 2012 tier is also a bit too old - that also isn't 60-80% camera? I changed from the A53 to Xperia VI because I had a bad experience using my WF1000XM4 and I also wanted to retain that sd cart slot. Wireless is so liberating until it goes wrong when the Li-on battery fucks up. Not to mention, the dimensions of the A53(or most modern smartphones) is so big that walking around it in your pocket is really uncomfortable.

And the screen ratio does need some time to get used to in my opinion but once you're comfortable with it, it's very seamless. When I used my Samsung, I had always used the "back, home, recent apps" navigation buttons and as this new Xperia came with a pretty up to date Android version; I was forced to use the newer gesture navigation (i.e: swipe up from the bottom to see recent apps, swipe from left to right and vice versa to go back to previous screen). I could not find a setting that would allow me to revert this and I'm not going to download an app from the Play Store just to use it, thinking it's better for me to get used to it. In hindsight, that's probably for the best as the screen is so long vertically that it would be uncomfortable to use the normal navigation buttons (in this case at least). There's also a lot of quirky features like the side sense which lets you open an app from your customized choice, but I think Samsung did it way better. I remember finding it smooth. There are no double tap to turn on the screen, or always on display which is absolutely retarded of Sony. To think that a $400 budget phone from Samsung has it yet they don't is just ridiculous. This actually made me install an app from F-droid just so that I don't use the power button. I just don't want it to get worn out.

Also, there's no dedicated gallery app and the only one given was the Photos app by Google. Its pretty awful. Samsung's gallery app was absolutely splendid. To think that a company like Sony that has a lot of stake in media and photography yet can't even be bothered to develop an gallery app is pretty dumb. Had to use Fossify just to have a passable experience.

Obviously the battery life is splendid. I am putting the battery charge limit at 80% and STAMINA mode at all times just so that I could prolong the battery life as much as I can. I could not care less about the 60/120Hz refresh rate. Sure maybe the windows' animations don't move as smoothly as it did in the Samsung but I don't care. Using it when I jog is nice, isn't as big as the A53. I also noticed that I couldn't access my notifications when I watch YouTube in landscape full screen. Maybe it's because Im using Revanced? I'm not sure. Watching it vertically lets me access it back. I don't play any games or gacha aside from FGO. And I wouldn't want to anyways since I want use this device as long as I can before I am forcibly switched to 10 V or VII. Also the media viewing isn't that nice since the screen is very wide. But I'm buying this phone just because I'm sick of having a phone way too fucking big and wanted an SD card slot and a 3.5mm jack. I still have the A53 because the camera is better there and I use it to watch movies or videos sometimes. Also I miss the file manager on Samsung. The Google one that is given by default on Android sucks.

I could buy the iPhone 17 Pro for $1100 and it will last me 7 years (security updates supported).
Or I could buy iPhone 16 Pro for $100 less which in this case for 256GB is $1000 that will last 6 years (7 - 1 = 6).
iPhone 17 Pro = $1100 / 7 = $157 / yr
iPhone 16 Pro = $1000 / 6 = $166 / yr
Buying the iPhone 17 Pro will actually last you a longer time, is better cost efficient, AND provide a better experience (improved specs).
For the iPhone 16 Pro to be worth it, it'd have to be on a heavy discount.

So I'm looking for a new phone, and I never really buy flagships. I always grab a midrange phone, mostly because I don't like big phones.
