It's not actually that, it's just the commodification of the internet. I saw a hacker news comment that explained this pretty well. The Internet had a much tinier userbase back then that was mostly interested in text content since that was all you could reasonably consume with your bandwidth and speeds, and then when the masses joined the internet, the video stuff all covered up the text blogs etc. They're still there it's just signal to noise ratio. And like I said, I really cannot stand most people..

The internet won't, but thank you. It would be good to try and learn to have a different "hangout space" for my brain e.g. instead of wanting to go on the web after a day at work I want to go into the world of the book series I'm reading or something
The world keeps staying interesting, so maybe something will happen in the near future that will occupy most of my interest and attention and I will be happily distracted
