Ignoring the lackluster build quality, yeah it is. Superior to the regular HE6 as far as distortion goes and the frequency response is decent as well. You need a pretty powerful desktop amplifier for those, however. 1370 mv for 94 dB, even more if you plan to EQ. Still a far superior headphone to all their Arya derivatives.

No. Noire X has a treble peak between 4 and 5k some people are bothered by, you can see that in some reviews. Drivers are basically the same since resonances are in the same spots on both. XO has the benefit of the frequency response being less variable and fit dependent due to its open nature. Unless you actually want headphones with more treble than Harman, in which case, yeah probably.
>>106576987
Qudelix 5K provided you use the balanced output. 240mW per channel should be more than enough to drive them at 94+ dB SPL. Comes with bluetooth also if you need that sort of thing. FiiO BTR7 is quite good as well.

Dawn Pro only outputs 120 mW at 32 ohms which might not be enough for HD600. Try FiiO KA13 instead, according to the manufacturer it outputs 170 mW at 32 ohms per channel, so that's 340 mW total. No need to use balanced with more noise that way. And you still have more headroom just in case since the balanced outputs over 1W at 32 ohms.

Alpha is the best tuning wise but Cloud 2 are decent as well since they're basically copies of Takstar studio headphones albeit with worse tuning. "Bad things" is probably QC and build quality since after the acqusition HyperX has gone to shit. That's why their newer models (Cloud 3, Alpha 2) sound worse than the older ones.

Cloud 2 got a revision after HP bought them too, they removed the brushed texture on the sliders, the metal plates on the cups, the rubberized coating on all the parts, the embroidered logo on the headband, and most importantly removed all the acoustic tuning material from inside the cups and replaced the metal driver grille with a plastic one which completely fucked up the sound.
>>106584287
Both of these have a fuckton of bass. Alpha has more which is why I said the tuning would probably be better for you. I can understand why someone used to nigger levels of bass would find Cloud 2 too thin but I don't understand even the biggest bassnigger finding that huge bass boost on the Alpha too weak.

If you want an open back with a decent bass extension then the only real option are planars. I guess you could also just get a low distortion DD headphone and add more bass with EQ.

Yes, due to the recessed treble. Add a high shelf filter to get rid of that veil effect. Even Audeze seems to think their headphones are better EQ'd since they have an app that has built in presets for their headphones. Used to be free but now they want you to pay a subscription for what's basically EQ APO kek.

probably japanese build quality. products that come out of japan are fragile, for japanese people with delicate fingers who baby their stuff. the tech itself is sort of fragile, you need dust covers and other crap. japanese people are also sort of greedy corporatists so they dont build their stuff with longevity in mind and over-charge for their stuff. they take full advantage of audiophools. good luck replacing the cables (if you can even pull them out) or tracking down ear pads when they decide that model is obselete or w/e

Knower here, all post 1980 Stax models have built in dust covers and as long as they aren't punctured additional dust covers, like those Stax sells, are unnecessary. Moisture is a bigger issue if anything. Ear pads are easy to replace since the L700 pads fit all Lambda models and are of higher quality, even if they're overpriced. I agree with the build quality, it's pretty shit. And the cables are a pain to replace. Their main issue is the rolled off bass, the older models that use glued on pads have a much better bass response as a result. You need something to seal the gaps between the pads to fix the bass response on the newer models. I don't think the price Stax charges for their shit are appropriate but you can get older models for cheaper and as long as you have a good seal and use EQ they are pretty good headphones. Even if they're basically superseded by planars now as far as performance goes, their Omega models are still quite nice after some correction.

>company releases good headphone
>company releases "improved" version that's worse
Many such cases. CRBN2 and Empyrean 2 are both far shittier than the first versions for example.

Avantone planar ($400) or Fiio FT1 pro ($200)?
Is Americium that much better compared to Chinesium?

ft13 seems kinda strange with how much more expensive it is and has pads that basically require buying only from fiio due to attachment mechanism

Someone higher up without knowledge of headphones saw the success of the FT1, asked the product division to make the same but more expensive and they shat out this

If you don't care about good sound, why bother asking? Just buy whatever has the most LEDs or the cutest cat ears or whatever.

FT1 Pro(top) has better tuning since the Avantone(bottom) has a huge hole in the treble. Despite not being chinese these are not built that well. The FiiO is not much worse build quality wise at the very least, though I've heard of some driver issues with this particular model. Avantone planar has VERY low distortion so if you want to EQ you could probably fix the frequency response but not the comfort since those square pads are absolute fucking dogshit. If you want to spend ~$400 you'd be better off with something DCA or even the cheaper Audeze models. If you don't want to spend more than $400 then just get the FiiO.

Comments on Audio-Technica ATH-R70x vs. Sennheiser HD600? Heard the mid-treble doesn't sound quite as good on the ATH-R70x.
