You're totally wrong about Java, it's still one of the most popular programming languages in backend for new and old applications, not because it's brilliant but because it's good enough. You're totally wrong about C++, it lost popularity in businesses years ago and it's only used in some cases, particularly when hardware is involved. Python is also in a weird spot of popularity because it's used for web development, scientific studies and duck tape scripting. I don't even know what you're on about.

It's very obvious to anyone looking for work that Java is the easiest option. I have to deal with Java whether I like it or not whenever it's a web application and most jobs are web applications.

I should clarify that I only know for certain that they're changing the front ends from java to javascript because that's what I actually have to use. But I assume they're also changing the back ends because we've had multiple production-halting outages since they started converting.

You're probably wrong in that case. The backend is most likely still in Java and it makes a lot of sense to move whatever frontend was in Java (probably JSP or JSF) to something like React + Typescript. That move would be very reasonable and is very common. That backend in probably in Spring MVC and is being moved to Springboot. If they're moving also the backend to JS or TS, they're not doing a good job. Any refactor takes a cost so those kinds of issues happen. It's not easy at all to do such an upgrade.
