/fwt/ - Friendly Windows Thread
FAQ:
>How do I activate Windows?
HWID2 generates and registers a permanent legitimate license on MS's activation servers
github.com/massgravel/Microsoft-Activation-Scripts
Usage: paste this into Powershell, run.
irm https://get.activated.win | iex
>and Office?
Same link, select Ohook option
You can also use Office.com if your needs are very minimal
or try OnlyOffice/LibreOffice and set it to save in MSOffice file formats

I also blame OP because he never asks for feedback, barely updates the OP, the pastas are outdated as shit, he's so petty that he doesn't link the threads he doesn't make, and always uses shitty anime pics

Enterprise or IoT Enterprise LTSC? Those are different things (IoT LTSC is the one that stays frozen on features and gets security updates for 10 years)
In both cases, yes, but the method is different.

If you just want to switch to regular Enterprise, simply use the "Change Windows Edition" tool in MAS:
https://massgrave.dev/

If you want to switch to IoT LTSC 2021 to get Windows 10 security updates until 2032, follow the guide in pic related:

Deep Windows discussion requires deep Windows knowledge.
This becomes a problem when you have a retarded trannyjanny OP. Mention anything outside of his sphere of knowledge (which is A LOT), and he throws toddler tantrums and gets you banned, which drives the smart anons away.
The pedo images/references he's always posting/samefagging drives the anons who aren't pedos away.
Thus you are left with what /fwt/ is today. You couldn't wreck this thread more if you tried - and I suspect this is by design.

not sure if anyone cares but everything related to windows was irrecoverably fucked
I ended up using diskpart shrink to free up space from the existing primary partition, made a new part from that and then used normal install (cmd install failed for some reason) to plop down a new w11 on it then labeled the old partition so it shows up as a drive with everything not-windows seemingly fully intact
now to get a backup drive and fix this mess for good (and create a proper backup after)

My friend wanted to update to Windows 11 but his TPM setting prevented the TPM 2.0 check to be accepted, so I set it to firmware. I didn't exactly know what this did, as it mentioned saving security data to his GPU or something. He does not have any encrypted drives and has left everything in his BIOS as is prior to this. I have downloaded the "Everything" App that some of you recommended but I don't quite understand how to use it.
My problem is the following, I have a big folder that is basically filled with other folders (each one has image collections and other files), the problem is that opening them with the Windows Explorer is kinda like a pain because it doesn't cache the folder and has to run over again to sort by date, so I downloaded this app.
The problem is that I can't really use it like I use Windows Explorer, as in I can't "navigate" through folders, I just wanted something to cache the date to have fast sorting, but every time I click on a folder it opens it up on the Windows Explorer and it's kinda like the same, what can I do?
To be clear I want to access this massive folder (and be able to navigate its subfolders) fast, without having to wait until Windows Explorer reads every file each single time

To make it better you download something like EverythingToolbar to more integrate it with the system overall, plus you can disable the search indexer service as well.

I have a big problem with windows and it loading my downloads folder for the past month.
It simply refuses to let me view all my files there and neither won't it let me move them elsewhere as it simply crashes on me.
How the fuck do I fix this problem jeetsoft has been causing me?
Don't even fucking dare suggest I do "sfc /scannow" or "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" because I have done this multiple times already and it does nothing to help me despite it being the only thing I've found online.
I NEED the files there as it's for a legal issue and jeetsoft has utterly prevented me from accessing them.
This happens even when I removed 90% of my downloads folder and moved it to my desktop. Now both folders refuse to load, crashing on me instantly no matter what view setting I use. Initially the downloads folder was 12gb, now it's 645mb and yet it still refuses to load AT ALL.
When I am using other applications to access my download folder so I could send files that way, it shows up and loads without a problem.
Now file explorer won't even show me directories to other files.

Even going to YT videos that have zero to do with Linux these npcs go to comment the same stuff over and over again.

You need to completely wipe the disk and install windows again. Use the install media and during the setup open cmd and use disk part to erase the disk, don't create any partitions, let the installer do its thing. If its a laptop, make sure that the ISO is setup to ask you which version you want to install or else it's going to default to the version tied to your mobo (like home). I've got a couple Win10 systems that can't into Win11, both mine and friends/family. A couple questions going forward:

I like how they are currently configured/tweaked/installed software/etc. Also, they are all legit, activated licenses registered to microsoft accounts. If I massgrave into ENT editions to get muh Three Moar Years, what will I potentially lose? Will settings get changed, features deleted, license registrations revoked, other Bad Shit ..? What should I prepare for &/or look out for after converting to ENT? What happens if I refresh a system and ask it to bare metal reinstall? Would it be better to save & migrate current settings instead of a complete nuke?

Also, I've seen mention that legit user licenses are eligible for one year of free security updates. Any idea how to get this? It seems to be a myth, or microsoft has buried it under bullshit.

I intend to IoT LTSC install from scratch on systems that I can, but some systems that is not a good solution for several reasons. If I bare metal an IoT LTSC, will those systems still be eligible to register/activate for personal microsoft accounts? Especially if those accounts are currently tethered to other Win10 editions? Does microsoft track or care about this shit? Would I need to go into the accounts and remove previously registered devices?

Changing the edition shouldn't do anything to the MS account, and re-activating with HWID while the MS accounts are connected will just associate said MS accounts with Enterprise, meaning that if you log into another Enterprise system it'll instantly activate. Then you can just use TSforge to get the ESU licenses which'll also be associated with the MS accounts.

That covers several options I'm looking at,

In general, it seems ms doesn't give a shit or flag this sort of activity, which I expected given so many people have done it & I'm not seeing any major complaints. I would like to ENT all systems that I'm not going to IoT LTSC, so that simplifies a number of systems I need to harden for the Octoberpocalypse.

I'll probably log into a couple of my accounts and release existing devices first just to see what happens & if that makes any differences. But, when I start fucking with other peoples' systems, I don't want to use them as experimental test beds. Rather work it out on my systems first. This saves me some time I need right now for other projects.

Thank you for friendly help.

I want to download Microsoft Photos and Movies And TV and all the other goodies for an offline install, do I also need to download all of the other Microsoft.UI.Xaml.xxxx and Microsoft.VCLLibs.xxx files too for my x64 install or should I just be downloading the neutral file?

And is there a way to just download all of these files at once just in case I want to do an arm64 install in the future instead of clicking one by one? It's a lot of files.

How do I force Win10 to use GPU1 for games while outputting picture to display through GPU2?

It works in win11, but not in win10.
I can't see or select my main GPU in win10 even for specific apps, much less set it as default in general.

ChatGPT is being dumbfuck about it and insists this isn't possible at all outside of Optimus on laptops.

There are some minor differences between 10 and 11 which are blown out of proportion. I was skeptical, but had to use w11 at work and discovered that it is ok. After using w11, w10 feels dated (aesthetically, anyway). May as well make the jump so you don't have to ever worry about extended security updates or questionable ISOs with a hacked w10 enterprise version.

Is there a way to batch script and install like 5-10 Microsoft app store file id's like 9wzdncrfjbh4, 9wzdncrfj3p2, etc, etc, instead of having to do one by one and press Y for the license, and Y again for the install? I just want to paste a row of id's and save the file and have it auto download and install.

after many years using debian and distro-hoping, I'm feeling very refreshed with the Windows 10 IoT LTSC experience. it's been so good that I even formatted my old gaming PC with it. very clean and minimal, performance is quite good most of the time.
my laptop rocks an old AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 2500U and sometimes browsing with LibreWolf or even Edge can lag the CPU a bit, so I'm still trying to tweak it to more performance, less bloat, less visual effects... wish there was a script or registry file available that fully removes all desktop and window effects.

other than that, it does what it needs to be done. very compatible with old and reliable stuff. i just wonder where the industry is going to be at the end of the security update window after 2032. W11 sounds terrible so far.

thanks gates!

This doesn't match my personal experience with Windows. Windows 11 has some optimizations that Windows 10 lacks. however, it also has more bloat, which makes the effects of the optimizations less prominent.

not my experience
I tried W11. I even had to go the manual way of installing it because of my older CPU.
but the experience was very bad and the performance quite lacking
I had it on my desktop but decided to go back to the minimal and clean W10 experience with the IoT since most games I play anyway are from 2010 and before.

W10 just werks and I can be productive with it.

hey i have installed win10 iot ltsc updated it completely and followed both rentry guides, everything works, its just on computer startup, desktop icon labels don't have drop shadow, but if i go to performance and appearance and disable smooth edges for screenfonts + drop shadow on desktop icon labels and re enable they come back but on startup they go away again.
any help would be appreciated.

not sure if that matters but i have also installed classic shell.

"Power options" from the control panel only show balanced as an option. But in settings > system > power and battery, it shows 3 options, balanced, best power efficiency and best performance.
Are these unrelated, or is the "balanced" profile from the control panel the same one as the one in the settings? I'm on Windows 11

I just deleted it because most games don't "install", but sure, for next time that may prevent this but it doesn't address the actual issue of where I'm at now.
This is on par of saying "well you should have backed up your data" to someone asking how to recover data from a hard drive failure.
