Will linux ever "just work" like macOS?
I don't want to have to reinstall my DE and fix my wifi every week.

Sounds like a (you) problem
EDIT: I don't need to fix my wifi every week. In fact, I've never had to and I've used Linux for over 5 years.

Bot or bait.
Even Debian comes with included non-free firmware these days.

as soon as you stop breaking it, but that requires a little bit of skill so for you, probably never

I’ve never had to fix my wifi. Matter of fact I use WireGuard on top of my wifi with ProtonVPN and I’ve had 0 problems. I can switch to a different server if I’m having speed issues, or just turn off the VPN with the click of a button, and I’ve been using the same Linux Mint install for like 8 months now.

I don't reinstall my de or fix my wifi every week. Not being a fucking retard helps if you want to use Linux. Otherwise pay the dumbass tax.

Distro matters. I’ve used Debian and its derivatives from 2015-2025 with no problems. I got meme’d into trying Arch and Fedora and they break from anything. Laptop battery dies? On a Debian/Ubuntu/Mint/Pop OS machine, it’ll just resume as normal once you have a chance to plug it in. Meanwhile on Fagora and Fartch, this can brick your laptop because of some esoteric LUKS issue that’s “””documented””” on a single forum post that isn’t easily searchable. Neckbeards will say it’s a skill issue, people with things to do will say it’s an OS quality issue.

Good time to make the switch to Haiku. It's everything a white man looks for in a desktop OS. It just needs more people developing for it.

Never once had to do either of these, so I guess Gentoo has been "just working like macos" for me for almost a decade.

>gnome looks like shit and mostly works
>kde looks like shit and it also mostly works
>macos 26 looks like shit and it mostly works
the only benefit of macos is that it has a bunch of extra software linux will never get, like adobeslop, and that macbooks are best laptops you can buy. The OS itself has been getting worse for a decade now while linux was slowly improving

Problem with Linux is that it doesn't excel at anything that's of any real value. It merely exists as a mediocre compromise of every field it could never conquer.

>>106621325 (OP)
It could do that but first it has to stop being linux.
