If you compare just 2 simple sheets of material, there's a simple law:
- Either it scratches easily
- Or it shatters easily
That's because, the harder something is, the worse it is at dissipating energy.
If you drop something soft, like plastic, then it will simply wobble and flex around, instead of shattering. But soft materials scratch easy.
If you drop something hard, like ceramic, then either it will bounce and make loud as fuck noises without damage (the energy gets redirected into the bounce and vibration/sound here), or it will fucking explode into a thousand pieces and redirect its energy that way instead.
Or you go the middle ground, where things have a medium resistance to scratches and medium resistance to shattering.
So yeah make your pick, do you want high scratch resistance that shatters easily, or high shatter resistance that scratches easily.
