So I follwed the guide in the OP and got image gens working with the v15 model, I still need to setup the hiresfix img2img stuff, but in terms of being able to generate images of the quality seen in this thread. Is this basically all I need?

I used to use a LoRA with the old webui-forge but illustrious actually knows the character I used the lora for so not sure I need that any more now.

# Installing Stable Diffusion WebUI Forge - Simple Guide

## Step 1: Download
- Go to: https://github.com/lllyasviel/stable-diffusion-webui-forge
- Download the **One-Click Package (CUDA 12.1 + Pytorch 2.3.1)**

## Step 2: Initial Setup
1. Extract the downloaded file anywhere on your PC
2. Run `run.bat`
3. Wait for installation to complete
4. When WebUI opens in browser, close both the webpage and command window

## Step 3: Add Your Models
Place your files in these folders:
- **Checkpoint:** `webui_forge_cu121_torch231\webui\models\Stable-diffusion\`

## Step 4: Start Generating

- WebUI will open with everything ready
- You can now use txt2img, HiresFix, ADetailer, and ControlNet

I'm not a total beginner, I used webforged previously so I know my way around that and some of the concepts. Honestly comfy-ui looked imposing when I first lauched it but now I get what each node does its really not that much different to forged it's just a different layout for the most part / a more visual configuration.

My question is just with that config from the OP guide and hires fix is that enough to generate decent looking images? e.g. I don't need to install anything extra like a custom VAE or different upscalers etc.?

The same SDXL needed, 20 for a character, 100 for a style and so on. The bottleneck isn't the dataset, those models require a big compute power to be finetuned. I don't think some rich degenerate weeb would throw 400k$ to train one of those two models an danbooru, and no one is going to train a lora for every character and style one by one when illust and noob exist

Installing them is just putting them in the right directories and loading them with a node. Most checkpoints have a vae included these days, but some odd ones sometimes come without one. Difference between vae you can download isn't big, you don't need to care about it. As for upscales, many options but you only need them if you actually upscale. As you want hiresfix, you apparently want to. Hiresfix in Comfy is just upscaling the image and putting it through a second ksampler with lower denoise.
