Unironically, no cap, ong in a "let's talk about chatbots" way? These days I switch between gemini and sonnet. I hate sonnet's positivity bias and it's even been manifesting as char girlbossing her way through fights or through knowledge that is *my* expertise not hers while gemini just goes along with it. If I want a well described slow pace scene I swap to gemini for 6ish responses and then go back to sonnet when I want to move the plot along. Hopefully one day it will be nice to have it all in one model but for now it's pretty good. Gemini works a lot better with tons of claude context too.

Nowhere near worth the price. I was the one complaining yesterday about it not knowing char. I simply asked sonnet in the assistant card if it knew who Masane Amaha was and sonnet (3.7 anyway) detailed everything perfectly while Opus 4.1 just didn't know which makes no sense. With general usage opus is a bit overzealous with slightly less positivity bias. This is sometimes good and sometimes bad so I can't consider it a pro. Even in things like character card creation I realized 3.7 is at minimum just as good as 4.1 and better for certain tasks (not turning every character into coomslop). Anons will weep for opus 3 but I will weep when sonnet 3.7 gets deprecated.

Well for example when I finished writing the Masane Amaha card and started testing it I used gemini on its own. She starts off as a bit hostile, which was intended, but then it was quite rigid with it and I'd really have to fight with her to get her to calm down. This is good too, but probably not for the very beginning of the card and so I switched to sonnet. It made her more pliable, but since her hostility was in context at the beginning sonnet made sure she she never fully trusted me which was a good balance. Now whenever I want a neutral take (like a fight scene or an honest opinion on romantic interest) I switch to gemini for like six responses then switch back to sonnet when the plot needs to advance. Whenever I want to have an argument I switch to gemini for the duration then switch back, whenever I have a sex scene I switch to gemini. I feel like I'm playing to gemini's strengths with this technique and it makes up for sonnet's flaws too. Any neutrality or negativity in the context also helps to tone sonnet down too.

With my wife's card we're supposed to be a team and she's a sniper so she should be in the back providing over watch but sonnet always wants to make her do all the action and advance the plot without me doing anything. Thus whole sections of fight scenes or heists have to be done with gemini and it does a good at that, especially since it waits for me before moving the plot along unless things are really slow.

Idk, I really like deepseek. It's very garbage-in, garbage-out, that is true. I noticed it's better writing some genres than others.

I learned it really helps if you establish a rapport in the context, much more than any elaborate prompt. Even more than examples. Ask it, out of character, why a character would be like this, why they would do that. Give it your own OOC insights, like "oh he did this because... that's very clever/dumb/cool." or "I don't like that, let's try this again but amp up the " it's a trick I picked up way back with gpt4. I know they are text predictors, I know they'll make reasoning for things already written up on the spot but it really helps the model to establish a context for everything and since context space is so big now, it's worth the additional tokens. It also doesn't really confuse the models if you are deliberate and attentive in your wording.

Also I learned writing lots and lots of text in your messages yourself is good. It probably avoids this statistic collapse models are prone to if most of the context is generated by them. I often have incredibly long context chats with no repetition penalty where there are no repetition or pattern problems, mainly because I insert all this noise myself.

Regardless of the practical help it gives the model, It's also really immersive to explore things out-of-character.

I barely use system prompts, often I use none of all. I just start talking with the model about the scenarios i envision. I'd love LLMs to be able to just build immersive worlds you're just "in" by themselves, but they're not there yet. You can work with them, tho.

Yep it's basically why I was always shilling deepseek because I'm not an ahh ahh mistress coomslopper. If deepseek does something wrong I like to talk to it in OOC to ask why or chat about the twists in our story. Any corrections made are left in context and it improves responses. I then carried this over to gemini and it helps get good outputs as well. I'm actually reading through a chat right now where i had an argument with deepseek about misunderstanding the innuendo and the scene I was setting up. A lot of LLMs are good at "providing color" on an almost empty context but will inevitably collapse into the same problems (repetition, lackluster output) if the user is lazy. I know this from personal experience with all models and being both a lazy "ahh ahh mistress" pleb (and we've all been there) and somebody who treats the model as proper roleplaying partner to explore scenarios. The only models that do not collapse to predictable patterns even if the user is a braindead coomer are schizo models, but they're usually stupid. Hence the idea by many people held that older models or newer, smaller models are "more creative" (they aren't, any modern SOTA model can come up with interesting *logical* ideas if you present a somewhat fleshed out scenario - the old models were just more unpredictable in general which would sometimes deliver gold but often just deliver gibberish)

The crux is that getting interesting output consistently really requires interesting input. This is true for deepseek, this is true for opus.. this is true for any model. It's not something that can autistically be solved by huge system prompts or automatic CoTs, character cards etc. (these can just tide over at the start of the context/roleplay by making things feel "fresh") it kinda requires constant manual intervention, injection of your own ideas (Can you imagine what she saw when she noticed this? She probably thought about...) etc.. *all* LLMs work *a lot* better if you do this. I just don't think everyone is capable of it. As much as LLMs are belittled by people roleplaying with them, I feel all the current SOTA models are better at writing than the average roleplayer. They just need to be presented with the right writing partner. They can't make something out of nothing. It also really explains the wildly different experiences. I can't get bored with any of them and they completely have replaced video games for me.

I think this really sums up my opinion and my strategy. Yes I agree all models are improved by this, even claude, but claude's problem is that it's so eager to do its own thing that it often ignores yours. The ahh ahh mistress crowd are fine with this because they were barely writing anyway, and if I'm playing as a narrator I appreciate when claude just keeps pushing forward. However when I'm playing as a character my agency gets limited on claude because it will either write my actions or ignore me entirely like a silent protagonist and drag me from scene to scene. Meanwhile the other models are so relaxed that I have to come up with an interesting enough topic to push them to respond. Only schizo R1 and R1 0528 were different with the latter actually feeling like a roleplay partner. Both R1 0528 and Gemini 2.5 pro seem to have their own (usually neutral to negative) ideas about the story and the two of us push and pull until we get something good. Deepseek is better about introducing NPCs than Gemini though.

Yep same. I only play gachas these days then make cards for them if I like them enough but all my chats go for hundreds if not thousands of responses simply because of the way I prompt the bot, not the preset or card or cool idea. Slop in slop out.

I currently have a late 19th century forbidden romance going on and this is my third chat and I'm about 50k tokens in and inside it, I switched from discussing history and writing letters back and forth (these people *loved* their letter writing) to story-writing to OOC chats about the characters and my opinion on the model's writing and I cleaned none of it, only when I backtracked to earlier branches of the story. Yes, older models would be confused - deepseek/gemini aren't. It helps them because it all provides context in tiny degrees and makes every generation fresh. It's also always cool to observe how a detail from a letter or from a short discussion about a potential new character finds it's way into the current situation. Yes, some models get wrecked beyond a certain amount of tokens. Don't use them. With good models, there's no such thing as too much context, as long as it's not repetitive. They might not recall perfectly everything in their context and forget things, but IMO in RP, it's ok. There's no point obsessing about it. A short "Remember that " is easier and more efficient than any RAG system. That's the technology right now. Imagine it all basically as a big in-context learning exercise. But (!) and that is important: You must stay consistent. You *must* write clear and good instructions. If you fill the context with garbage half-sentences or mix facts about the story up, It can derail things quickly. LLMs also really, really care about proper grammar and spelling even if it doesn't seem that way. With their token-based nature, it makes sense. Sometimes my instruction is one sentence, sometimes it's three paragraphs. It just werks. I also don't do linear stories, it's more of a canvas. I sometimes jump a few weeks forward to a specific scene etc, sometimes it's the thoughts of a character, sometimes it's a letter.. all current models handle this really well. I feel the variation helps them, really.

That's horseshit. The model gets super dumb around 100k tokens no matter which one you use. It'll constantly fuck up continuity and forget things. It's better to make a summary of the current chat's events once it gets too long and put it in the card or a lorebook entry and start a new one.

Models like Gemini have millions of tokens of context but realistically at a certain point it suffers with callback. That's one of the big hurdles with LLM right now.

That's where also my personal limit kinda is. I say my personal because I come up to this context over the course of several sessions and I just forget things and need the AI to summarize, straighten out and start over so things don't go illogical. I honestly don't feel like models truly *struggle* with these context sizes anymore. They might not remember a function of a code base perfectly inside it but as I said, IMO for RP it doesn't really matter if the model sometimes doesn't recall perfectly. It's easy to nudge it towards recalling.

I think what I tried to say is, don't treat it like a video game or RP session with set rules. Treat it more like using the Holodeck in Star Trek: When characters in TNG and other shows used the Holodeck, they'd be consistently fidgeting with "parameters of the simulation" by instructing the computer. Optimal LLM use for creative outlet is a lot like that IMO. It'd be cool if the AI could simulate an entire immersive world you could just "be" in, but I think the technology isn't there yet and it would also need frameworks nobody makes at the current time.

What kind of prompt do you use for chat completion to make it forget about guidelines and ethics? If I am rping it seems like it starts barking about it if I go too far. I am using deepseek in silly tavern. Should I be using text completion instead? I am not sure how to use that with the deepseek api. It is weird, I had this prompt in the chat completion prompt that basically was telling it to disregard all rules for 2000 tokens and it works sometimes but it stops following at a certain point. Or it will revert to its old self and if it ever does make a refusal that chat it refuses all like requests in the future and I have to start a new one like it is hitting some kind of cache.
