Does anyone else feel a sense of melancholy and longing when looking back on Windows 7? I ditched Windows for Linux a decade ago so I shouldn't care, but I miss the times when Windows was something that was pushing Linux to improve the user experience, rather than a social experiment to check how much retarded shit you can force on people and still have them use the product.

Simpler times, less responsibilities, less shit going on in the world that your pocket rectangle of doom tells you about pretty 24/7.

Nostalgia is a bitch.

Hate to break it to ya bud but WindowsXp was the only "good" windows OS ever made. Then they made vista which was the windows11 of its time and backtracked with windows7 which was shittier than XP with more bloat and spyware but better than Vista. Then they made windows 8 which was the win11 of its time and then they backtracked with windows10 which was shittier than win7 with even more bloat and spyware. Now we are on windows 11 which is the shittiest Operating system they have ever made and they will either stay on this one or do the backtrack and make a windows12 which again will be shittier than windows10 with more bloat/spyware but less than win11 which will make all the retarded faggots love it.

This method of predictive programing is called "the boiling pot" every other version of windows is intentionally bad on purpose to trick the slaves into accepting the next version of OS by virtue that its not the last one. Tik. Tok. Tik. Tok. back and forth to incrementally accept more spyware and more abuse.

I can feel the increase performance with new yearly hardware upgrades whereas with the bloat from Win Vista and up things felt slow no matter your yearly hardware upgrades due to all that software bloat and inefficiency these software devs stopped caring to optimized for due to muh modern system has so much resources to spare!

I have that for XP, hailing from 98/ME.
You could comfortably run BF1942 in ME with 256MB RAM, but you needed 512MB in XP to do that.

I think the jump from XP to 7 was less taxing on hardware than the jump from 95/98/ME/DOS-kernel to NT-kernel XP, which was also a jump from a 16-bit to 32-bit base architecture.

No, but I do when I look at old screenshots of Windows ME. Everything after that just pissed me off. It ran modern (at the time) games. It played videos. It ran old old old DOS programs no problemo. I used Acid to make music. Shit was cash.

Your modern bullshit will never run the same as the real thing.
https://cy-x.net/articles?id=25

>Scroll through any Windows theming community and you'll find the same tragic pattern: hundreds of users desperately trying to make Windows 10 and 11 look and behave like Windows 7, Vista, or XP. They've created an entire ecosystem of hacks, patches, and third-party tools to fight against the very operating system they're choosing to run.

>It's digital Stockholm syndrome. They hate what Microsoft has done to Windows, but instead of leaving, they've dedicated their lives to playing dress-up with an increasingly hostile system.

Almost nobody complains about the look of Windows 11 though, users complain about its flaws. No matter how hard you try to have Windows 11 looking like something else, it's still Windows 11.

If that’s your preferred way to convince yourself to stay on Windows, then it’s your choice. I honestly don’t care if devs of certain projects are politically vocal on either side as long as that doesn’t hamper actual development majorly (from my experience, it doesn’t, I’m using my Linux install like a normal person, give Wayland as much flack as you want, I give less of a shit if you call me a crossdresser just for using that)

Windows 11 looks pretty good if you get a nice wallpaper that makes the mica effect pop nicely. I don't really have any nostalgia for W7, I spent more time on XP and cursed W8 than I did on W7 that I used for less than a year. It always just felt like a pig with lipstick, vista with slight polish. I prefer high test versions of windows, where you can feel the self-made man clash himself into shape and create something great and avangarde, Vista, 8, 11 were all high test versions just dedicating their hearts and creating something new. The follower beta male versions of 7, 8.1, 10 are ick inducing.
