Replaceable laptop batteries are not as expected as they used to be. That's at least not a knock against them.
The cells themselves matter less in this case since obviously they can be replaced. And since their specifications are open, anyone could design and use a better cell once developed. And from what I can see from the news, multiple non-Framework people have been making advances in battery tech.
You may consider this a cop out but I'm trying to highlight that we as consumers are not soley dependent on Framework itself to solve all the problems, the benefit of their open designs lets anyone outdo them at their own game, for the benefit of us all, at any point in time.
I.e. I could just buy their shell and then get some experimental nuclear battery bullshit from China and slot it in myself.
I don't have to be an important person at a big company and make vendor specific requests to companies like Dell, IBM, et al. anytime I want something custom made. Whether its the main board, battery, whatever.
I really admire this as a cheapass who prefers to keep and maintain things long term.
I don't like getting used to a product and then switching to a new one every year. If it's good and I'm familiar with it, I want to keep using it forever just with component upgrades.
