opera is the best browser
zero lag
blocks ads out of the box, no extensions needed
crypto functionality built in

tell me again how Brave did anything beyond a chrome extension

Chinese spyware aside, I will give it to Opera that it has a free no login vpn built in. It even lets you pick from three servers, last I checked.

But I have no idea what you're talking about with everything else. Doesn't Brave have a built-in adblocker and crypto stuff as well?

Ive been using opera since 2014 and i would agree, its the best "mainstream" browser but it has issues of codec integration on linux, which requires some effort to troubleshoot and overcome.

Vivaldi is probably the best browser out there, but i dont know how reliable it is and how many common websites break on it, so YMMV.

Heres a modern web browser UI/UX comparison video for more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrxhVA5NVQ4

I liked opera until I realized it wouldn't let me export bookmarks

Vivaldi is chrome fork, why would anything break. Its also the original opera devs new browser. Vivaldis issue is a react ui which sucks but its got firefox 3.6 level customizability and then some so who cares

Uninstalled it because it's too retarded to just use ffmpeg libraries under Linux, so anybody posting an .mp4 would make it shit itself.

Yeah due to licensing issues (read money) you gotta connect the dots yourself and put the lib.so file in the correct spot. This is what i was referencing in my post above. Theres scripts out there that handle it for you, and it shouldnt be an issue once setup properly. Heres a page with more information on how to resolve the issue: >https://www.reddit.com/r/operabrowser/wiki/opera/linux_libffmpeg_config/

In what way? Genuinely asking, what makes it better than the countless other Chromium forks out there?

When all hard requirements have been met, the only remaining determinants are subjective

>UI/UX
>Striking that balance between complexity and customization
>Lack of annoyances or 'NAGS'

Im sure my opinion has some momentum behind it as well, but it was the first browser i found that let you customize the new tab page without addons back in the day, so it gets a pass for some of the marketing wank it has today (ai integration, default shortcuts on new tab page, etc).

I got curious about the new tab options you mentioned and it prompted me to make it the default browser as soon as I opened it. Earlier this year, it was nagging me to pin it to the task bar after every update and also re-enabling itself as a start-up app every time. Maybe you mean a different kind of annoyances, but I think this stuff still counts.

The new tab customization options are rather disappointing as well, but I can't complain too much since every browser seems to be limited in this regard, which is why I use add-ons.

If you mean the minimalism, you could probably achieve that with any other browser as well. I'm not trying to nag you about it, no pun intended. Use whatever you want. I'm only saying.

NTA, but I'm getting a bit tired of dark mode and dark 4chan themes tbqh, after many years of constant use. I might try readjusting to light modes, but I don't really want to do the whole screen yellowing thing.

Vivaldi has gotten my interest after seeing the UI and some menus, so thats my next fixation. I'll give it a whirl and see if its better.

The real problem I have is that firefox has been shit they moved to their fast release cadence in 2011 and it just hasn't scratched that itch for me ever since. The insane memory leaks that firefox had in 2013-2014 were what got me to switch to opera in the first place. Ive also had strange rendering issues on different websites over the years when ive gone back to firefox to see if its any better. So i've completely locked in to the chromium based browsers, but i hate chrome. That style is haram.

Opera up to 12 was the best browser.
Opera 15+ is a chrome-based Chinese botnet, only slightly better than American botnets.

I'm currently using Vivaldi, but it's also just a pale chrome-based imitation of what made Opera great. I'll take what I can get, though.

Based. It's a shame that Presto isn't open sourced. It seems bizarre that, even though Nu-Opera isn't using it, they're like "nah, you can't use it either lol".
I just want an alternative to gecko and bl*nk and I don't want to wait until 2649 for fucking Servo to get a beta release.

I'll stick to Brave. You can keep your browser for gay niggers.

That's still fucking around with my distro's package management. And with symlinking it also breaks on an ABI change in the packaged library.
