>4chan unlikely to be included in Australia’s under-16s social media ban, eSafety commissioner says

>4chan is fine though
I'm just glad our government is 20% evil and 80% incompetent unlike the UK where they're 80% evil and 20% incompetent.

I just want the UK banned, that's all, that's where the most annoying posters are.

4chan isn't banned because it's a honeypot, buddy. It's the pressure release valve, every other site has public opinion heavily moderated and you get banned in a heartbeat for saying anything controversial.

Don't you worry, they'll come for 4chan at some point too.

This is because 4chan is an 18+ website and the law only requires that websites take reasonable steps to block under-16s from using it (because they realised that requiring a digital ID tied to your real identity to sign in everywhere is nearly impossible to implement properly and even Australia hasn't become Britain yet, I also want to believe it's because they realised they can't police the actions of a foreign company like 4chan but it's Australia so probably not) and you do get banned here for admitting you're underage (underageb&s do still post here obviously but most of them aren't retarded enough to admit to it)

I'm glad our government still hasn't figured out how technology works and I can post this without getting the AFP breaking down my door at 3 AM for posting wrongthink on the internet because once they've figured out how to block half the web to "protect the children" they will absolutely do it (and this won't affect anyone who knows how to use a VPN because they won't know how to implement that properly either)

maybe but even the usual labor shills seem to be getting pretty tired of eKaren.

>Officials later clarified that eKaren has not undertaken a formal assessment of 4chan.
lol

Yeah lol. It might not even require that.
4chan was briefly "blocked" by some ISPs around when the NZ Christchurch shooting happened. And by blocked, I mean you could bypass it by changing your DNS settings on your computer.

>4chan was briefly "blocked" by some ISPs around when the NZ Christchurch shooting happened.
>a domestic terrorist posted a link to a Facebook stream of him killing random people on *chan (apparently I can't post the name or 4chan will think it's spam) so we'd better block a completely unrelated website that also has "chan" in the name because people are also racist there
You'd think if any site would be blocked for that it would be Facebook for hosting that in the first place but they're a "good" website tied to a man who is on record saying "They "trust me". Dumb fucks" (he was absolutely right for saying that) and you have to use your real identity there (you can absolutely sign up to Facebook with a fake name) but no, better punish random nobodies who had nothing to do with it and make saving a video to your hard drive illegal because having illegal pixels doesn't set a dangerous precedent at all

The fuck do you mean. This place is dead and hollow. It's a sterilized honey pot run by bots to keep something like söyjak party from actually radicalizing people.

It's actually based. The next generation of young Australians will not waste their time gooning, gaming, and doing other gay shit online. They will grow up to become turbochads.
Unless they come to 4chan instead, of course.

That says they'll still have to do age assurance, which they won't, so it will probably have a block if the government seeks to enforce.
Has this happened in the UK yet?
>>106855337
The actual issue is a separate but complementary age verification system for adult content they've been vague about how they're implementing, with the usual pap where they pretend every website is going to run its own checking service. Linked within the article: https://archive.md/j6hrM

4chan is already an 18+ site so why would they have to ban it from under 16s anyway

nobody here is under 18 after all

that would be against the rules

I'm sure they're going to try that eventually and this law is a Trojan horse for rolling out greater and greater restrictions on privacy until there's none left and they're being deliberately as vague as possible so they can enforce it basically however they want but that's an old article (also the Guardian isn't a great source to begin with because of an extremely blatant left-wing bias but I admit there's not much of an alternative because most sites will be biased one way or the other), this is a more recent one (it's the e-"""safety""" website so I expect it to be full of half-truths and lies by omission but hopefully it's at least up to date (obviously no-one in the government actually knows how technology works or they wouldn't work for the government (although I hear ASIS offers big money to recruit gullible young people fresh out of uni to risk their lives by spying on other countries) but I would hope that people employed to regulate the internet would at least know how to update a website (I am being far too optimistic though)): https://archive.md/s8qYO
>It’s not a ban, it’s a delay to having accounts.
"It's not a ban if we use the right carefully-chosen words to describe it" (basically "that money was just resting in my account" levels of spin)

Penal colony mentality and a lack of culture of rebellion against the government like America, not saying every country has to be America (I like not risking getting shot by inner-city "youths" every time I go outside and having to tip my ATM for giving me my own money) but there's really something to be said for having a government that's afraid of its people rather than the other way around

4chan is an Imageboard not a Social Media site - 4chan's terms are 18yo+ as well. Straya eSafety know they are passing against the wind trying to regulate harmless sites like 4chan
