use case for apps that require windows β₯11 ?
drivers are a bigger issue. rtx β₯6000 and rx β₯10000 might not have windows 10 drivers. the first gen might allow modified .inf's but there are no guarantees. nobody ever hacked a proper driver for gtx 1000 series on windows xp for example.
holy fuck why do people still use windows 10? this shit has been ass since day 1. nothing but dwm and wddm bugs like windows 8.

windows 11 ltsc 24h2 was already released and it doesn't have explorer ads.
if microsoft adds ads through an update,
then you can just reinstall with a clean ltsc 24h2 .iso and turn off automatic updates.
maybe windows 12 will have forced ads, but for windows 11, it's too late.

windows 7 was a better OS except it never got proper UEFI support, USB 4 support, RTX 5000 series or RX 7000 series drivers, or proper DirectX 12. If someone managed to backport a few of those things then I would keep using Windows 7 today.

no, microsoft bribes other companies to artificially block old windows from working. that is why chrome stopped working on windows 7, but chromium forks were easily able to restore windows 7 compatibility. microsoft also made a lot of motherboard manufacturers delist already-published windows 8 and 8.1 drivers from their websites.
tldr google and mozilla will artificially block windows 10 before there is any technical reason to do so.

I'll jump OS when I upgrade to the next CPU AMD cranks out.
Honestly I don't really even give a shit about the support ending, because things will work just fine for a long ass time to come.
But it's a good excuse to finally shift away from this utterly pozzed piece of garbage that has for the most part gone downhill since XP. That was the last OS that allowed the most control.
And I think by now it's been long enough for Linux to reach a state where most things work either out of the box or with little tinkering.

In fact, itβs faster than a lot of newer devices that are βapprovedβ to install windows 11. I donβt remember this ever being done before really, maybe it was. But I swear before if your computer couldnβt update it was really because it was a total potato. This is not the case at all this time. Perfectly fine computers are being left behind.

Users of Windows 7 and earlier versions constitute a minority. They are individuals marginalized by the dominant internet ecosystem. Despite being excluded by the larger internet infrastructure, they are paradoxically labeled as botnet contributors. Isn't it more accurate to recognize that the majority of users operating mainstream operating systems are the primary source of botnet activity? Currently, Windows 7 users resemble the early Linux users, who were once perceived as foreign or unconventional by the dominant Windows user base. This marginalization, however, affords them a greater degree of safety, comfort, and independence from governmental surveillance.

XP out of the box, yes, but updated and tweaked like I have it, there's nothing I can't do.

I suppose the one silver lining is that it's probably safer to use than 7, ironically enough.

7 can be almost every bit as safe (provided you know how to unpozz it), except for certain ports that can't be closed without losing stability, unlike in XP where I have literally 0. Not that it matters much if you're using a good third party firewall, which I am anyways.

It's safer in the sense that it's less of a target. Neither are really optimal to use if you care about security, but you won't immediately get a bunch of viruses or hacker attacks either, especially if you know what you're doing like another anon said.

Many institutions use 7 too. Again, you're better off using 10/11 for security but XP has much lower usage nowadays than even 7.

There's several ways to get extended support, so not really. But Windows 11 is unironically a better OS at this point.

I don't mind switching over to W11 but I don't want to deal with the bloat and aggressive adware aspects.

Depends. If your current windows is with a local account, doing an upgrade will keep it that way.
If you're doing a clean installation, you'll most likely need an MS account.

>βI think thereβs a resurgence of anti-microsoftism because at this point in time the desktop has not yet learned how to be multimodal and I think weβre going to be part of the throes of that transformation. which must take place. The Desktop is not going to be the monolithic operating systems that they once were in the last century. Microsoft are going to be at the centre of that. Itβs a huge transformation for desktops to make. They are now going into a pervasive, multi mode and Microsoft will be resented because of our leading role but without that leading role, and without that transformation, the Desktop will not survive.β

It's the last day today. I already wasted my Sunday trying and failing to upgrade someone's laptop to Windows 11 now they have to take it into a repair shop to do it properly. They are still not buying a new laptop as it is a high end gaming one that is still capable of modern games.

In the past it mattered because of smb.
Smb is a great protocol, but vulnerability infested.
Your "automatic network discovery" doesnt work anymore because of a vulnerability they couldn't patch, so they just disabled the whole thing.
We don't know how it will be with Win10. But that was a huge issue for 7 and XP after end of support.
There is also the possibility of Microsoft itself having a vulnerability waiting somewhere and releasing it into the wild to force you to update.

I switched to Win 10 in 2020, 5 fucking years after it came out to get MSFS to run (I'm a flight sim sperg) and I still keep Win 7 on my side laptop. In 2020, again 5 years after release, I could still count all the games that didn't support Win 7 on fingers. Steam took 9 years to drop Win 7 support.

Please explain to a tech illiterate retard like myself, who is especially ignorant regarding cybersecurity:
Are hackers licking their chops, salivating and ready to unleash hell? Is my system already compromised because I download torrents and visit sketchy porn sites and do yandex searches looking for obscure onlyfans leaks? Is there a sleeper cell inside my computer about to ransomware all my shit when the clock strikes midnight?
Should I disable wi-fi and unplug the ethernet if I must log onto Windows 10? Am I gonna have to reboot my goddamned computer every time I want to play a game, and again when I want to surf the web? I don't think dual-booting is viable. Alt-tabbing while gaming to bullshit around on 4chan is an essential part of my routine. Often I'll leave a game running @144 fps and alt-tab to surf 4K porn for a while while my GPU screams for mercy. It'll feel like the middle ages if I'm unable to multitask.
I'm gonna install Linux in the next few hours. The next post I make on 4chan might be from Linux. Imagine that. I look forward to eternally banishing Microsoft from my life. I wanted convenience and endless "security updates" that change the order of my files in folders which I didn't ask for and then I can't find my shit. But I don't want to deal with a janky distro run by "trannies".
Microsoft has apparently been taken over by normies. My PC is not a smartphone. Fucking kys. This is their downfall. They asked for it. For my lifelong loyalty as a customer and avid Windows defender, they spit in my face, stab me in the back, and urinate on my corpse.
But am I gonna cave and log onto Windows 10 anyways? Just out of habit? Am I gonna say "meh, only normies worry about hax". Am I gonna revert right back to Windows 10 because my torrents don't work on Linux? Am I gonna put my head in the sand and keep on like I've been doing, once I find out Linux sucks balls?

They could be. But probably won't. There are so many checks and balances that even with a stolen identity you still can't empty a bank account. Most banks have also banned crypto so even ransomware attacks are fucking pointless. Unless a whale is keeping his passphrase and height on a text file, there's fuck all to steal. I doubt it's gonna be pandemonium, I pause updates for a month and nothing has happened.

>usecase for respecting privacy?
Enjoy sending telemetry to Microsoft only for your OS to get worse every time a new release comes out.
10 users are in the same bus as 7 users. Might as well downgrade to 7 once everything magically stops working on 10 despite working in the same environment prior, amirite?
10 does not magically become a privacy respecting, optimized OS after support is dropped. It is still a frankenstein combination of old native code and XAML bullshit among whatever other "frameworks" Microsoft plops onto their OSes now.
You've been doing the same exact thing with your computer you were doing a decade ago. Why upgrade if you aren't invested in AAA gayming??

Also, as a former windows user any licensed instance of anything before 10 gave me free upgrades to 10 well after the transition from 8>10 happened. I assume it will always be free to update to 11 because MS wants to treat OSes like services as they do MS Office Suite?

Windows XP is more bloated 2000.
Windows 7 could have just been Vista SP3, the new release dropped the bad reputation.
Windows 8 is a better vista/7 kernel wrapped in a interface downgrade.
Windows 10 is Windows 8 with a slightly less worse interface and forced on "features".
Windows 11 is Windows 10 with a more bloated interface.

Oh and I forgot to add, when Vista was released OEMs had been pushing shitboxes with 256/512 MB RAM and 2D graphics with no 3D acceleration, because XP like 2000 before it still supported that. Post-release OEMs started supporting the bare minimum to run the Aero theme and by the time this flowed through to normalfags Windows 7 was out. This is also why people fondly remember XP after vista came out, they used the still well supported OS on hardware that was way past what needed, allowing that performance to be used in other applications.

I'm still on 8.1 and will be for a long time.
>b-but what about updaterinos!
Never a problem, ever. If you ask a techtard what antivirus to use you get "Common Sense Current Year Edition" as your answer. My answer to "what about updates?" "Common Sense Current Year Edition".

Over time security will be an issue but only for retards especially zoomers who can't tell the difference between *.mp3 and *.mp3.exe are afraid that big corpo won't provide them a safety net.
My laptop is still on 8.1 and literally nothing happens

Can't find it!!
Was using Rufus to install 11 without meeting the hardware requirements, but it says that I still won't get updates. :( I don't know why Microsoft wants so badly for me to move to Linux.

Did you have to ready a USB stick while using Rufus? I plan on using it with Windows 11 Nano.

Apparently this was an empty threat.

I assume it has to be an empty USB stick?Because I heard that when you get everything ready to install Win 11 Nano, you'll be told everything in the chosen USB drive will be erased.
