is this nigga gonna burn my house down??
i want to throw a 2070 in my hp z800 but it only has 6pin cables. lots of people online say you can use something like this, but only to buy the official HP brand because thicker cables and ferrite bead. how can i trust that this won't fry my shit?
also the 2070 takes 175W, the pcie lane supplies 75W and the cable supplies 75W, is this gonna fuck my gpu? do i need to undervolt it in bios?

by the time you buy this thing (that probably wont work because the cards not going to get enough power) for $55 you could have just bought a new power supply.

Well, a chink one, but sure.

Just save and get a good power supply. According to my math, 75 + 75 is less than 175

HP reads the Torah before designing everything, I swear.
I have an NVME card in my supermicro server that I had to desolder a resistor from. With the resistor in place the card constantly resets if inserted into a non-HP machine.

shouldn't have bought a jew PC that you can't upgrade then

im using a 2 6pin to 1 8pin afaik you just need to run a 12 and common ground to those last 2 pins

>2 6pin to 1 8pin
link?
also i read that a 2 6pin to 1 8pin is more dangerous than a 1 6pin to 1 8pin, do you have any opinion about that

>>106860663
i don't need to upgrade the PSU you dumb kike. i just need reassurance that my fucking house won't burn down

>/g/ - Technology

It depends on the PSU spec, they rate each voltage rail separately.
If the 12v is rated to be able to give the 75w more, then the cable used wont really matter. 2x8 would have less resistance in the cables but the same on the actual connection to the gpu.
The gpu connection is the worst point as seen in nvidias 12 pin, 75w is low enough not to care.

8pin is just reshaped 6pin as an information about the psu being beefier.

2 to 1 cable is better than 1 to 1 cable. The extra pins allow it to deliver more power. A 6 pin cable is for 75 watts, an 8 pin cable is for 150 watts. If you use a 1 to 1 cable, youre trying to force potentially 150 watts over a rail in your psu thats not meant to push that much. Best case scenario, your psu shuts down. Worse case scenario, it burns down.
Just buy the 2 to 1 cable for an HP off ebay, it should cost like 10 dollars. Look for one that has thick wires. Or better yet, make one yourself so you know its wired properly for your specific power supply.
55 dollars for a single cable is criminal, dont buy that one.

I have an HP Desktop from like 2004 that will not boot unless it has its specific HP power supply installed and if it ever dies I don't know what I'm going to do about that

Ignore everyone telling you it won't work.
It will work up until you get into the desktop because the GPU won't draw much power until you open a game.
Go download MSI Afterburner and set a power limit of 80%. This will reduce your performance by like 5% and eliminate the chance of your house burning down or blowing up your power supply.
No need to spend money on extra power supply or cable.
