I would even say you are losing features and ease of use doing txt2img or img2img in Comfy with SDXL, ControlNet, adetailer and inpainting in Comfy is actual hell. That isn't a "philosophical question" it's a stupidly easy technical one.
A "base model" is a raw output model acquired after training. SDXL is a base model. Illustrious 0.1 is a base model. (most) revisions of noob are all base models. You can train on top of these models to no ill effects.
Random shitmerge or random shitmix are not "base models" and have their keys all sorts of completely fucked up, are untrainable without massive degradation and, worse, harms lora compatibility for any loras belonging to any of its ancestors.

This checkpoint has a defined aesthetic. Quality tags are [cinematic lighting, highly detailed, masterpiece, best quality, amazing quality, dynamic angle] and it gave me blurry, rim light, glowing light, light particles without prompting. No Lora needed. Has some errors (red circles) but I am into it! Will test more. The fact it gives all those effects without tags or Lora is peculiar.

But from what I understood, you want to edit a NAI image in NAI and it's changing the composition entirely. If that's the case, NAI doesn't have much in terms of edit capabilities.

What you can do is edit and inpaint the image locally via SDXL using tools like ControlNet. If I were you, I'd download WAI15 and inpaint your image. But first, I'd caption it using WD Tagger on Hugging Face that enhances stability at high denoise values.

To maintain the line composition of the image you want to edit, use Canny or Lineart (or both). To maintain the colors, use Blur.

I think that's the only way you're gonna preserve the features you want to keep.

Sorry to disappoint, but Holo doesn't have any real character development or depth. It's not my opinion, many people on myanimelist feel the same way.
