You can use TOTP or a U2F key, you don't need passkey or phone number bullshit

It's for your safety. If retards were smart enough to build apps that don't get hacked, there wouldn't be a need for it. Also 2fa is a backdoor for the government. If they ever want to get your info, they can just sim swap your phone number, and get the password recovery, then swap it back like nothing happened.

I ran into this exact same problem recently with github and had to install a 2fa app onto my burner phone because github was rejecting my burner phone number for the 2fa authentication process. So oddly exactly the same problem as what amazon is doing to you. Must be the next step in the digital id push if all the big websites are implementing this seemingly independently but all at the same time.

Once I get my project done I'm deleting my github account and this fucking authenticator app I don't even want.

There's nothing normal about requiring a phone number to log into an account. 2 factor authentication in any form is fucking bullshit. Don't give in. For cases where I can't avoid it, I complain about how much of a pain in the ass it is during every customer service encounter.
