They were "good enough", that's all they ever had to be. All anyone ever asked from these services was that they were the baseline minimum when it came to human communication. Now, they can't even be that because of their constant race to SEO and market themselves as advertising platforms instead of social media sites.
Considering this is the primary, sole reason these sites even exist in the first place, then it's reasonable to conclude that they have degraded as to be useless. Same goes for Search Engines, having to use Russian search engines to find things on the English internet is not a good feeling.
