at the minimum you want something that provides enough airflow and doesn't cause dust to enter to clog everything. having no airflow causes issues for everything. having no case to allow airflow makes dust clog it all up. unless you got one of those gpus with magnetic fans just get a good case.

I already bought the PSU and MoBo on sale, unless there’s something wrong with them I don’t plan on returning them. Though maybe I bought them too early when I don’t have the other parts.

The RAM brand doesn’t matter, but would I need more than 32GBs if Im not doing much other than gaming? If it goes on sale for a decent price, maybe I’ll shoot for 64GB.

Thanks for linking that chart, I’ll likely get the 7800x3d instead. I won’t lie, despite the chart I am still kind of holding out for 9800x3d going on sale but if a good 9070xt price comes out, I’ll stick with the 7800x3d buy them both so I can start building. Even though the difference is marginal performance wise, I still want the β€œbetter” performing card for long term

that audience goes to reddit and tells everyone about how great the 9800X3D is

I want to upgrade to 64gb of ram(possibly 128) and the prices are so much higher than what I was expecting. they are similar to ddr5 prices. not only that but the selection of ddr4 ram at those capacities appears to be at least 10 times less than ddr5 ram. like the industry has fully moved on.

I'm not sure what fantasy world you live in, but the only high performance computing need the average person may have (if any) is running video games. Intel can put 3500 e-cores on their CPUs and circlejerk over Cinebench scores or whatever but basically nobody in the consumer market actually needs that shit.

I read up on this after Nvidia announced they were ditching their stupid fucking GSync modules and allowing mediatek to implement it in their chips. There is no escape from them. It's one of the main reasons that VRR has random flickering issues with random configurations and why color accuracy is so fucked across the board for "prosumer" monitors. Gsync's implementation was genuinely better and I'm saying this as someone who has only bought AMD and is still using a fucking Vega64 with a viewsonic Freesync monitor. The scaler chips they designed had a much higher range of frames they worked in which was the main reason you would even really need VRR in the first place. Yes it's nice at higher framerates but at lower ones it's way, way more important to have.

Seriously read up on how dogshit the PWM implementation is by Mediatek and you'll see why them having a complete monopoly on the scaler chip market is a really fucking bad thing. >The board
IdΓ₯sen is 3mm and is thicker vs 1.9mm on Mittzon, idΓ₯sen is a full 160x80, Mittzon has a cutout and is 160x68 or whatever it is on the 160x80 full, which also means it has slit for cable management and stuff, but has the cable management collector thingy behind it - which will be problematic if you wanna arm stand mount monitors

>Legs
Mittzon has better C legs for mobility shit, IdΓ₯sen has A legs at the bottom which slightly hampers mobility, but is more stable

>Electric adjustment
Mittzon has 2 saved modes and up down vs IdΓ₯sen which has just up down with a lever, plus the lever is placed closer to the center than absolute sides which is more annoying, not sure u can choose spot on IdΓ₯sen but on Mittzon it's left or right, think it's on both
Mittzon also has 2 hooks on either side

My ideal table would just be a giant slab with C legs and the button placement places far away on sides but apparently they don't even wanna make that maybe some where else has that
actually now that I remember it pretty much I am describing the Secretlab magnus pro, but it also has a cuck slit, but the controller is integrated in the table so it doesnt cuck your chair so, but it's a 1150€ table so eh

I want to be clear that I don't think that Gsync is inherently better simply because it was closed source bullshit. I'm saying it's because that they had a dedicated module which genuinely performed better than mediatek which is all any monitor maker uses. Freesync does the job and for cheap but without a better chip, it runs into a lot of issues.

I am literally just talking about a hardware difference. IIRC gsync modules ended up being Freesync compatible over the last few years so it didn't even matter anyways

My PC suddenly turned off and won't turn back on.
It's a relatively brand new PC, built it around January.
I can't even remember all the specs, 4080 super and a bunch of other good parts. I'm stressed out and can't recall.
I cleaned it out, dusted it and stuff nice, and still nothing. I tried different outlets too. Nothing.
If I unplug the wire and plug it back in, then try turning the PC on, I hear the faintest possible little buzz, like one tiny "bzz" and that's it. What are the chances the PSU is just dead, and it's not like a motherboard thing. I don't have any spare fans to like, unplug my PSU, and plug in just a fan to my PSU to test it. I'm so stressed.

However weirdly enough Gigabyte Aorus B550 puts 1.2V SoC and 1V VDDP when I'm using XMP but it ran P95 fine for days. At 1900, I have to reset my CMOS. I read that there's a hole at 1900 so I figure I just slam 2000 and see what happens and that's where I am.
> the bible
Is it the OC guide on GitHub? I skimmed it but it doesn't say the exact order of operation, just provides some guidelines to what to try. I'm also going off what I can find through Reddit and OC forums.
I guess I'll try upping VDDP CCD incrementally to see if that helps but my God, this process looks painful.

you have a very similar setup to what i used to run, that board also pushed 1.2 V on auto
you can try the OCCT CPU+RAM test and it should start spitting out WHEA errors almost immediately at 2000 FCLK
>At 1900, I have to reset my CMOS. I read that there's a hole at 1900 so I figure I just slam 2000 and see what happens and that's where I am
if you have the 1900 FCLK hole you aren't getting 2000 FCLK
from what i know the way AM4 works is that the fabric goes into a different error correction mode above 1900, so it will boot but it will never be fully stable
so, if you can't do 1900 stable you can't do 2000 either
>Is it the OC guide on GitHub?
i was joking, i meant the actual bible lmao
you need to pray

i would aim for a nice 1866 FCLK setup instead
your voltages look good so i would keep those as is
focus on your memory timings, they're more important than fabric speed

What do you want out of your use? RAM is a cheap easy upgrade, you can get used DDR4 3600 32GB for $50 on ebay. 2x32 is still expensive. Personally I would get a 4TB second SSD and only use the first drive for my OS. If you didn't miss the boat on a 5800X3D, I would have said that. I paid $300 for one in 2022 and now they're selling used for $380. PC parts are retarded for years now.

I cancelled my P95 and started OCCT, so far no issues.
I recently switched to Ubuntu so I have no idea what the WHEA equivalent is but it looks promising!
>fabric goes into a different error correction mode above 1900, so it will boot but it will never be fully stable
>so, if you can't do 1900 stable you can't do 2000 either
I'll have to do more research on that, I didn't know that there's an error correction mode built into the fabric. AMD Jesus please bless my chip.

interesting that it's not showing any errors, but why do you have boost disabled?
>I recently switched to Ubuntu so I have no idea what the WHEA equivalent is but it looks promising!
errors show up as "machine check exception" in the kernel log
you can search for those with "journalctl --dmesg --grep=mce"
>I'll have to do more research on that
that's what i've heard from others and it matches my own experiences as well
my 5800X also had the FCLK hole and anything above 1866 FCLK was hopeless, no matter how hard you tried
a chip that can do 2000 FCLK without any WHEA errors or performance loss is very, very rare

Many of the higher-end quality units these days have 10-year warranties. This 850W model from Montech (built by CWT) tends to be my go-to recommendation because it has a 10-YR warranty but is still inexpensive ($85):

The Seasonic Vertex and higher series also have 10-YR warranties as well as Thermaltake/MSI off the top of my head.
Mid-tier PSU tends to be 5-7 year, and super budget ones 3 years.

For the paper clip test, all the pics I see have the 24 pin having a -12v pin, mine doesn't. That's the second pin from the top left (pin #14 I believe, 2 off of the "green")
Does that matter at all for the paper clip test? Like I still put the clip into 16 and 17?
Also, the connector, on the PSU end has TWO different things to plug into the PSU from the mother board. The m end is the standard 24, the PSU end has two separate things from the 24, so I plug in both for the test?
I just wanna make sure I'm doing this right.
If I hear the tiniest "bzzt", extremely faint, would that mean it's a capacitor issue? I'm pretty certain it's only my PSU that's messed up but a part of me is terrified everything is fried. Yeah nothing turns on whatsoever. I asked earlier and followed the advice of testing to make sure at least it wasn't the power button being an issue (my old PC I needed to use a screwdriver to bridge the connection so I knew how to do that). And I didn't really want to get an old PSU to test it all out.
I'm pretty sure the PSU is just dead, which is crazy cause it's a Corsair rm1000x, and it's barely a year old. Nothing should be wrong with the input of power from the outlet or surge protector. I've tried all different things regarding that. I had the knob turned to "auto" or whatever, so it should have been doing its thing at the proper rates. I don't even know how this thing could have died. It was stormy here, but literally nothing else went out, and the PC was plugged into a surge protector. It's possible something with the storm tripped literally only my PC and fried the PSU but I don't know how that'd be possible. I've tried discharging the electricity in the PC, and trying, but again nothing. My friend mentioned the capacitor thing. I hear the slightest electricity sound you can possibly imagine, just for .1 seconds when I press the power button (and even then only after unplugging and replugging and stuff)
I'm just praying it's only my PSU. I'm heading to beat buy tomorrow to grab another one, and I'll see if I can be reimbursed by sending the old psu in, I still have a 10 year warranty.

Things are locked down enough on Nvidia since I think Maxwell and amd since rdna2(? don't know if anybody ever found a way to unlock things on 3) that it's basically impossible to damage the gpu through an oc.
With Nvidia at least from the xx70 onwards there's not too many real world gains from an oc, especially this gen they pushed things way past a most effecient point so that things weren't tied/slower than the last gen super cards in every other game.

I just upgraded from a 3060 to a 9070 XT but now in some games I'm bottlenecked by the CPU.
I'm currently using the i5 13400 and 32GB of DDR4.
I considered to change the whole platform to AM5 but then I'll also have to replace motherboard and ram and that can be really expensive.
So should I just upgrade to a better 13th/14th gen Intel chip or should I just save up some more for AM5? And which CPU should I upgrade to?

Specs:
OS: Windows 11
Motherboard: Asrock B760M Pro RS/D4
CPU: i5 13400
Ram: 32GB DDR4 @3200mhz
GPU: RX 9070 XT
PSU: Asus TUF 750W

Ok, I've never used any sort of bios or fan settings before. My 12 year old pc didn't need it. Most of the fans don't even spin anymore lol. I'll do that but I feel like I've seen afterburner before and it was a confusing mess of tons of menus that didn't make sense.

I am noticing I am infected with the Underdog Syndrome. I want to buy Intel now purely because they are the one falling behind, a desire to rationalize and justify their unique advantages over their competitors (including price). If their next two desktop generations are able to turn the ship around there's a non-zero chance I will end up with an Intel CPU again on the 3rd generation from now when its time for an upgrade. I remember the Intel in the first PC I had with my own money; an i5-3570k. Such a long time ago.

In oblivion it doesn't matter what you upgrade to there's just not a single processor that can actually hold 60fps in the overworld.
As to an upgrade, if you have a z690 or z790 I'd start looking for 14700k 14900k discounts. I would say 14600k because even that would be a really good jump in most games (and everything else) but it would be weird going from an i5 to an i5 in basically the same generation so...
Wouldn't bother with a new platform when nova lake and am6 aren't too far off.

I've got all the parts for my computer except the GPU. I don't really give a shit about AAAs, and I only made a new build so I could get a 7800x3d to run EU5 and other sims/systems games from my 9 year old dogshit bargain bin build. I also like to pump up the FPS to match my 1440p 180hz monitor in comp shooters.

Right now I'm leaning towards a cheapo 9060XT to go with that, considering GPU heavy games aren't really my thing. However, I am looking forward to true AAA slop paragon GTA6 that is several years out on PC presumably. Would it be worthwhile to eat the extra 300+ for a 9070XT hoping it would last me till then? Is my initial idea to just get by and save some some money by waiting for a new gen GPU that smokes the 9070 dumb? I am working on the unfounded assumption that next gen consoles are gonna have heftier GPUs and I'll regret going in on a higher end card now when the GPU heavy game I actually want to play comes out.
