Should I buy a controller for my Samsung Galaxy A55 or buy a Retroid Pocket 5? Which would be better at emulating?

if you want to do any sort of emulation only get snapdragon/adreno devices. avoid samsung exynos chipsets or mali gpus. your phone is samsung exynos. retroid is snapdragon.

Don't get those 1 purpose devices, it's a weird hobby grown men have. Also, if you decide to upgrade your phone in the future, S25 emulation is crazy! Or just get a refurbished steam deck.

I would get the retroid handheld. It looks like a very fun device, I would even get it myself if I didn't already have a 3ds.

Good guess. My ex pilled me on emulation, back when I was a nintendo sheep. Having multiple devices for the same purpose is just consoom and collectorfag. Just use your PC/Laptop and get a handheld PC. If you are considering an ARM device, just use your phone.

For retro emulation, an ARM device is much more efficient and has better battery life. A dedicated device is more comfortable to hold than your phone with controllers attached. It looks like the switch 2 if it was good.

Fair. I mean I'd prefer psp/switch-lite sized handhelds, everything bigger than a switch(yes even the switch2) is not really portable, for me personally. And yea, battery life and ARM devices, can't beat that, but the Steam Deck plays retro games at a low tdp really efficient and you have the option for x86 PC games x)

as with everything, depends on what you want to emulate. my rp mini does gc and wii beautifully. switch emulation is still a bit rocky. mega comfortable, actually pocketable, and screen is gorgeous. battery is good, speakers are meh. you can even stream pc if you dont mind playing on a postage stamp (you wouldnt have that issue with the rp5 youre looking at). galaxy a series is dogshit, do not waste your time. you'll spend slightly less for significantly worse

Deck would be best if you just want emulation in the house or a trip, but it's a little too bulky & valuable imo to take out in public for me (diverse state) so I'm looking at one of those retroids or something. Vita's also pretty good, having the godly-for-emulation psp inside it, but they may be getting hard to find now, idk, I still have my 1000. These mentions in /vr/'s /hhg/ are pretty attractive.

I bought a dedicated handheld, Odin 2, cause I don't want to install games on my work phone.
It's great, you can pretty much dock it too if you wanna play in a big screen. I also use it for gachaslop.

Anbernic device (I have a rg34xx) for ps1 emulation and down
Hacked 3ds for (3)ds games
