This is the best linux distro
>stable compared to windows 10
>just werks with the latest software and drivers
>best package manager on linux to date
>minimal bloat, just what you want and nothing else
>got a problem? use timeshift

There's nothing else to use and its relatively easy to insall.
Let me say this, linux is different than windows but the install is no more difficult vs windows 10's install.

Just use fucking arch

main problem with arch for beginners is that linux package names are always some cute shit. how are you supposed to know ex nihilo that for your printer to work you should install "cups?" Cups? The fuck? But the fact that they only push actual point releases (hence rolling release) of packages to their repos is always nice, with Ubuntu SAC and Fedora you can get broken git builds because fuck you.

Lol, do you feel unusually superior and smarter than you normally are just because you read off and followed instructions from a wiki page? Nigga I installed arch before any of the archinstall shit they added later on. You were probably in highschool back then lmao. It's hilarious your first retort is to call in to question my intelligence for not being able to use archinstall when I called out your lie about it being easy to install lmao.

In the linux world, "stable" means all your packages are out of date, "unstable" means your packages are new.
In the OC world "stable" means your PC works well, "unstable" means your PC crashes.

Installing Arch is trivial using the guide

The only thing that ever made Arch cool was you had to do it yourself and you could be proud to run it
Now it's a baby distro, Arch = Ubuntu baby distro for retards
it's too easy to install
get a real distro that's hard and I'll give you props mintbaby

Arch is great if you really want rolling release, but sadly all rolling release distros will break sooner or later.

arch being as popular as it is astounds me

yeah it's totally a good idea to use a distro where each individual package is maintained by a different random guy who drinks beer all day

genuinely you cannot say you haven't run into bugs if you use arch

at least in the corporate backed distros things are somewhat standardized and tested against eachother. I think rolling release just sucks. happily have no problems with fedora, used gentoo for a full year before realizing it was a waste of time

to clarify, gentoo was extremely stable and is basically arch done correctly, but managing package conflicts is way more of a pain and time sink than its worth and it's virtually guaranteed to happen if you use your computer for multiple tasks

Basically you're forced to update Arch every few days. Given how massive the dependencies are, it's just a matter of time until shit hits the fan.
I'd personally update once a year but that's pretty much impossible if you use Steam for example.

which is very rare. It's much more likely that a major update in s traditional distribution destroys your system.

So, that's why in Fedora (corporate backed distro) has btrfs (filesystem that it uses by default) bug that was forcing filesystem in ro and they didn't upstream fix so it was only fixed in a minor kernel release, while CachyOS (Arch fork that's maintained by roughly 3 dudes who provide support in discord channel) upstreamed fix in 3 days?

It's decent but the best depends on what you want. For the large majority of desktop users, yes you want Arch

Here is how it goes:
- Traditional distributions have major versions that avoid updating major versions of applications. This is on purpose because servers require this. However once you do a major update the whole thing may crash. Also your system may crash if you don't follow the distribution logic.
- Arch doesn't have a version at all. You get all stable latest versions when you update. There are no custom anything either, all packages are vanilla. This makes the system very stable. The catch, you may get a major update of a package and now you have to manually reconfigure it.
- NixOS is a mix of both. You can do rolling release or traditional. Multiple versions of the same application can live together. Instead of installing you declare packages and the system updates for you atomically with guarantee of integrity.

There's also a atomic/immutable distros which don't allow you to make system modification and replace the system entirely. These are for servers and serve no purpose for desktop users. It's used to simplify maintenance.

Not an arch user btw. Could someone file a bug for the chromium desktop file so that it looks for Icon=chromium-browser and not just chromium. This is the default on ubuntu and fedora.

Anonymous No.106873811

That is the price of Arch. If you have a major update you need to reconfigure. In your case it would also happen in a traditional distro on a major update because you had your own local script.

actually, checking how icon naming works, it looks like chromium picks up chromium-browser. Sorry arch

Not true i updated Arch few times after few months of not updating without problem, i only had to sync keys or something which is just one easy command you can find on wiki. Right now I'm almost year without updating.

You guys are funny. There are hacks and malware everywhere, just google Ubuntu hacks and you will know, better ask AI. Whats more, even corporations are in danger of leaking information about you or selling you out. Thinking that your identity or system are secure because its managed by corporations is delusional. AuR is managed by people who love what they are doing not by fags who hate what they are doing but have to because they are paid.
