Why Isn't This More Common?
Without shitting up the thread talking about about Linus or the female scandals at LTT, can anyone point out why this isn't more common for extreme gaming/professionals who really benefit from having their processors not get thermal throttled? Why do people spend money on elaborate water cooling setups when they can just spend $300 on a portable a/c and cool their workstation and their room at the same time?

we had this 20-something years ago. Vapochill, Koolance, and Prometia, I think were the major ones. They were cases with refrigeration compressors built into the base, but instead of blowing air over cooling coils they just ran the freon to a CPU block. The richfags got to see what their Athlon XPs could do when they were at like -40C under full load.

Condensation

How much condensation can there really be if you're sucking the warm air from the case before the cold or cooler air blows in?

this, you really don't want below-ambient air going through a computer.
what you can do however is do a custom loop liquid cooling system and cool the radiator with below-ambient air, since that can be kept external and it doesn't matter if that gets wet

you just had to cover the socket in dielectric grease and paint clear sealant (or just nail polish) all around it. The peltier fags had to do that too back when those were a thing

Mainly this.

This old guy & his sperg son did a video with an air conditioned pc (Intel lol) a few years ago
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27Jg0Qa6mts

He talks about the "condensation issue" around 6m20s.

if it gets any colder in wintertime theres condensation

Gaymers complain about their LEDs being "too loud".
You think they're going to tolerate an A/C unit right next to their monitor?

Moisture and condensation.

An A/C is much more expensive than a water pump or fan.

Do you think it would work if they didn't cool the air too much? Like what if the air is just a couple degrees colder than the air circulating into the machine and not like 60 degree cold?
Anonymous No.106885701 [Report]

>it would work
But it already does work in the video. The only condensation happens on the radiator, not on the pc.
He's basically running it like a dehumidifier where intake and outtake are mostly the same air (the room overall will be heated up by it, not cooled)

overclocking in general is less of a thing now because chips are stock-overclocked to within an inch of their lives already. Also the heat loads are way higher, back then if you wound your 80-watt Athlon up to like 150 watts that was considered mega-extreme heat, nowadays chips are happy to eat way more than that stock. So you'd need a bigger compressor and radiator and so on. That takes up a lot of space and costs money and there weren't enough richfags to sustain it. It also uses more power, that's why peltiers aren't a thing anymore. The ones that still do extreme overclocking as a hobby don't care about 24/7 anymore, they just buy a jug of LN2 and have fun for a weekend.

yea i remember when chips would just shut off the computer hard at 85C, now they'll sit at 105C and barely clock down
