What is the cheapest microprocessor a man can use to browse this website for little girls?
>inb4 use a stolen computer
On another note, what's the least bloated computer a man can buy on a market while still being able to basic stuff like sending e-mails, using text editors, and making simple presentations for work?

Ok, let's say I wanna get a new computer for my imaginary wife's imaginary son but I'm kinda short on cash and still wanna pay every cent I can for it without having to participate in a burglary. Which one should I get him?

you can get e-waste tier machines for free. Throw some minimalist Linux (or NetBSD or something) on it. It'll be like a first-gen C2D with 2GB of RAM, so you aren't gonna have 50 tabs open, but it'll work.

actually if all you need is email and a text editor you can get by with a whole lot less than that if you're willing to live in a terminal.

Where tf do you get such computers? I've only seen old mechanical keyboards and printers at charity shops, and laptops from no more than 20 years ago at secondhand goods stores.

Ask around, not long ago I junked some crappy HP FM2 machine from a friend of my dad's, for a price of "just get this thing out of my closet"

as a side note, I thought everyone on this board could make at least one functioning computer out of whatever is in his spare-parts box

idk my spare parts box is full of bike parts, spider webs, and candy wrappers, not computer parts.

Years ago I hacked together an interface and some glue software for plugging an ESP32 into a Commodore 64 so it could connect to wifi and "browse the web". It was a fun project but at that point you're basically just using the C64 as a keyboard, given that the ESP32 is already a significantly more powerful computer

Shiggy. Have you never read "Ready Player One", friend?

The cheapest laptop you can find on craigslist/marketplace that still has a boot drive and a working display. Alternatively, if you have a spare keyboard/mouse/display, the cheapest tower PC will also do. Hell, even a shitass tablet will do what you're asking, it's really not a very high bar to clear these days.

I already got a ThinkPad, but I'd like to have a spare computer as a backup in case of emergencies.

Could a smartphone hooked up to a monitor and a keyboard do all the work a low-spec PC can? Would it be possible to hook up an adapter to, let's say, an old Samsung Galaxy phone so as to get Ethernet ports, HDMI and extra USB ports?

You can get refurbished pc's for as low as 100€ here in EU. Mostly i5 gen 7/8 office mini pc's. Run linux just fine. Go up to like 250€ and you get something that still runs win11 with 8GB Ram and an I5 gen 9/10
