im curious how this will actually go; but it has nothing to do with the cure cancer shit. It's just a separate use, since it is a societally disruptive tech. If you were in his position, would you not too think about a wide list of implications? You think it is because it is failing to cure cancer/be non-trivially crucial to our knowledge that they will soon allow erotica as though a pivot or Jewish scheme, but they still believe the former things will happen completely in time, yet also invest in other ideas. If you watch carefully, Sam chides Elon for his gooner shit, has consistently thought of the societal implications of this technology, and focused primarily first on securing hundreds of billions of dollars of compute. The fact that it is only now, after all of that work, he has decided to do the erotica thing, is what is interesting to me. If the tech was truly dogshit for humanity's progress, this would've happened way before, not after Sam has made the rounds and secured his infrastructure. A couple of years ago is still today in terms of their beliefs, and in my opinion compared to then, the tech has advanced incredibly, and will continue to do so as the order of magnitude of compute currently cooking is on a different level. Compared to then, society is much deeper steeped with LLMs as well. The basic "catch-all" ethical safe-guards OAI laid down in the difficulties of the past few years is now ready to be lifted and experimented with as OAI has become more comfortable. That is what is happening, not some sort of bubble scheme for money or anything else of a desperate or sad or disingenuous nature -- it is that they are completely thriving and comfortable, not the inverse, and appropriately engaging with society when they best can.
