Good afternoon, anon. How's everything going on in your life? Any recent happenings you'd like to share?
>desktop op is a blank windows 11 install
bait used to be humorous, now it's just irritating and annoying on purpose, like advertisements. (which this is, because no /g/entooman would use winblows)
Desktopchads seemed the best place to ask
does anyone remember this screensaver I probably first found it in the 2000s. It created a bunch of growing circle sections and lines at 90 degrees and just kept growing forever I think if you left it.
crappy picrel but all I got

I am a linux newfag so I'm using Mint Cinnamon and this is my desktop currently
>is it worth trying to rice this OS or would I need to switch to another distro? I'm too much of a newbie to switch to anything else rn though >where would I even go to to get started with ricing?

anon who ran out of setups few threads ago here, so i decided to post it here alongside the other one where they jerk each other off for using windows, this specimen is from the end of the 2010s, the second earliest screenshot of my desktop i have preserved, if you guys wanna see me post an even earlier one from 5 years even earlier than that, let me know here or on the other thread.
>>106921276 >>is it worth trying to rice this OS or would I need to switch to another distro?
absolutely, cinnamon is comparable to kde if anything, start with gtk themes and changing panels to whatever you want them to be, there's also things like conky so that might interest you, i dunno

Iβve found solitude in KDE, have a recreation of Windows 7 installed on it, come to think of it I always like making shit look like something else huh?
>>106921545 >love the UI but how much of a pain is this to use as an every day DE?
it's a bit jarring at first but it's definitely usable if you don't mind using keybinds. I prefer the recreation because it has some nice modern touches.

I was ok with Arch when I was still using it too. just wanted to try alternative inits and ended up liking it enough to stay on it. even more of a reason to keep using it now that they have xlibre in their official repos

The way I described it to the search engine was just βmountain triangle wallpaper before:2020β, the windows obscured the triangle so you werenβt really able to see it

Good morning, saar. Weird to see Supermium on Windows 10 but I guess it makes sense with it being 21H2. Just holding off on IoT Enterprise 22H2?
>>106929562 >Weird to see Supermium on Windows 10
Real life unfortunately forces me to use a chromium browser so I just went with the one I thought sucked less and had best support. >Just holding off on IoT Enterprise 22H2?
I installed this one back then because I want to keep my PC as-is for as long as I can.

It is the steam version but I use the old colors and ascii tiles because theres a number of things in the graphical tiles I strongly dislike. Idk what this "I want to pretend it's ascii" thing is about, it's perfectly playable and functional in ascii tiles

fuck windows 11 im staying on windows 10 and no i didnt get the gay LTSC bullshit i will move to linux when i get bored of battlefield 6, and prior to if anyone asks for them, both the wallpapers are animated so i cant give them out i think the sora one might be floating about since its a limited deisgn for a glass mousepad

hey i see you went with icecat, interessant, doesnt it come with a bunch of extensions that break things and telemetry, why not run firefox-esr with an user.js?
>>106938186 >>106937450
thanks anons. it's nixos with niri, waybar, ghostty, and zathura in the pic. I'm using nix with flakes, which are a sort of modular lockable manifest like cargo.toml. the dev env inside tmux is kakoune and tidalcycles repl which I use for live coding. the color scheme is custom and aplied system wide with stylix, and the wallpaper gets recolored based on it
I'm trying to decide something for a linux icon theme, so I came to the aesthetics thread. Does anyone not generate thumbnails for their pdfs? Like you see only a generic pdf icon (icon related) instead of a preview of the file.
My first month in Gentoo. Once I get the time I'll try building my own "minimal" kernel with everything essential built-in so I can ditch the initramfs.
For those of (you) that don't use a status bar, how do you do it? mine has the usual stuff >clock and date
because I need to know it >workspace indicator
how else will I know where I am? >cpu/ram/disk/wifi/battery indicators
self explanatory
>>106939952
Cell phone/spare laptop has date & time
Niri has an overview feature to see all windows/workspaces
CPU/ram/disk accessible from the terminal
WiFi/battery not necessary on desktop
>>106938413 >doesnt it come with a bunch of extensions that break things and telemetry
you can disable the extensions. also I don't see a single downside about breaking telemetry (unless you meant it comes with telemetry, which it doesn't, unlike FF). I've been a Firefox user for like 20 years but I made the switch mostly because of their changes in policy not too long ago. I wanted something that was still based on FF, and now that Icecat is on 140ESR, it finally has native vertical tabs which made me switch to it full time

Thanks, I took some time designing a mimetype icon, but I realized I would never even see it except as a tiny icon next to downloaded files in my browser. Even worse, the standard mime generic-icon-type for pdfs is "x-office-document" and not the "application-pdf" that is shipped with every icon set, so normally it wouldn't be used even without thumbnail generation. I guess I'll need to think a little more about what to do.
