how CPU intensive is Hyprland compared to Gnome and Plasma?

for Hyprland, assume a minimal yet complete setup with the typical daemons you'd get from wiki.hypr.land/Useful-Utilities

Hovering at around 20% CPU usage on a thinkpad x230 right now. I'm also using a second monitor and have lots of taps open for research. Quite light actually.
Before you ask, it's also using almost 5 GiB of RAM.

Almost everything that could be intensive in hyprland is hardware accelerated (GPU), considering there's no shell it should be markedly lighter on CPU

Battery life on my laptop was the same between a properly configured hyprland and KDE. We can assume it's in the same ballpark. As long as you use UWS and ags based bars you're going to be fine. Currently using it on my main rig and I have no problems.

Its the best looking vm thag doesnt havd telemetry or javascript. It uses like 1gb of ram which you cant demand less than that unless you're willing to compile the kernel.

Considering hyprland is hyped as being more resource intensive than the new borderlands, it's pretty good.

They are nazis, so of course the logo has been designed to express their transphobia covertly. If you want a light window manager that just works and has been designed by an actual ally rather than fascists just use Openbox.

You can customize anything. I can make waybar icons on the bar and make them larger with the scroll wheel if i wanted to. I can fade the transition to the next workspace with css too.
Also gnome sends telemetry to redhat and kde to steam.

on hardware from the past 2 decades barely significant.

unused ram = wasted ram.
i'm not sure why anyone would believe otherwise. you think those few gb of empty ram is beneficial to you in any way? cached data ram can be cleared in ms if something with priority needs it.

taking 500mb for a wallpaper is ridiculous though.

didn't say otherwise, but there's a difference between caching and just hoarding 500mb for a fucking wallpaper that never gets freed

vaxry, the dev of hyprland is hated by freedesktop and sway and the underlying software is ran by those people
hyprland was banned from wl-roots, the code base that these both have in common, for making fun of someone for aping out about getting being misgendered on hyprland discord server (I think he put "who/cares" as their pronouns)
sway used to be a bigger project than hyprland and more popular and when vaxry was getting cancelled people were supposed to move to using sway but that backfired. Hyprland is way bigger now despite so many notable linux people coming at the guy who was like 16 when he made hyprland

I was using a default config. All I was fucking doing was watching anime through mpv and the stupid thing would constantly lock up requiring a hard reset. Got tired of that and tried Sway and never had a problem. Didn't help that I tried asking the discord and they just laughed. They're not serious people. Sway seems like it is made by serious people at least. And it does work so there is that. Idgaf about sway specifically. I use whatever works.

I have fucked around with a lot of shit on hyprland and never had it lock up. provided drivers and everything else are fine.
I tried sway but seemed more primitive in a sense, not as smooth. I like the small details for how windows move, the special workspace etc

My XMonad eats less than 1 gig of RAM and shows around 0% of CPU use. I have Ryzen 7500F, but it's still to much to use 20% of the CPU even if it's Intel Core i5-3320M. Let alone the RAM use.

My CPU usage sits at 0.0% when I'm not changing window focus.
If I try and quickly change it back and forth it spikes to around 10% in my not-at-all-conclusive test.
My memory usage is steady at 0.9% of 16GB, so 144MB.

It just covers all the needs you can have, no frills. It's just a port of i3 which is considered the reference for WMs at this point.
