Keep meaning to switch eventually but as someone on the outside looking in, here's how I'm seeing the Linux space atm:
1) Linux is considered less user friendly to use but to someone with a little tech literacy (able to use search engines, and maybe AI?), I doubt it's harder to get used to and configure than what hoops I had to jump through to make W10 better and removing whatever spy shit it had.
2) Analysis paralysis when it comes to choosing a distro because there are so fucking many of them. For a normie, it's just too much info and factors to consider. All of this serves to fracture the Linux scene so it cannot/does not address the core issues of Linux (such as accessibility and whatever else). You really do lose the bulk of people around this point because they'll just revert to the status quo (Windows and Mac).
3) Said Linux communities are pretty fucking elitist about their software/OS, as they look down on others for being more knowledgeable, and if more people migrate it means their hobby or "thing" won't be as special. Add to that all the distro infighting and it's not an overly friendly community to join or ask questions.
4) The uncertainty of whether or not software that runs on Windows or Mac will work on Linux.

I will say that things have improved quite massively and I'm looking forward to see how they develop in the future now that MS has alienated such a large portion of their users.

Malware isn't common for the average Linux user to catch, so grandpa can click on the porn ads without a problem.
Installing stuff isn't as easy as Windows, so there's a smaller chance of grandma installing 17 different versions of an antivirus or whatever.

You might save 200MB of RAM compared to Windows, but the CPU (and GPU) is the most important aspect and Linux won't magically make it faster. It's more likely that the same software will run slower because of worse optimization.

Outside of the enterprise space, Windows has had absolutely no new innovations since Windows 10.
Even then, those 'new' features were already implemented decades ago by other OSes : virtual desktops, dynamic menus, the Windows Store.

I legit think the only notable feature Windows has over other operating systems is Windows Hello.

In the enterprise space however, as cool as some of the management features are, they come with debilitating drawbacks :
Intune : the 's' is for 'speed'

I've set up my family on Arch and basically act like a sys admin for them remotely. Most of the time, they just need a web browser and maybe an office program to write stuff. Considering that it started out around 0.5% when statistics started, yes. At any rate, adds up to about 6% when you include ChromeOS, and doesn't include users who spoof their browser ID to a version of Windows for some practical reason (lots), that's probably about 7%.
