>the main reason anybody on /g/ is using Linux right now.
Please thank Linux Mint for giving Linux any kind of userbase. Nobody is using anything else.

I've been using Linux for a decade, but I've never installed or used Linux Mint. That said, thanks to Linux Mint for helping bring new users into the Linux ecosystem.

If they called it something edgy instead of Mint the adoption rate would 200-400%

Mint failed completely when I tried it on my HTPC. 4k@60 Youtube playback on N100 was a no-go. Ubuntu just worked with very minor tweaking. they need to get their shit together.

Most of us use something else, and so will you once you learn the basics of the operating system and realize that something else better suits your needs.

Cinnamon is true kino. But why do they use years-old packages? Why is Wayland not supported? It's so close to being perfect

Ehh, Mints packages are pretty damn current for what mlst windows users are running when it comes to open source stuff becsuse windows doesn't have a based update manager, my last windows 7 installation from 2023 had an old rincewind VLC player from 2013 and I was getting by just fine.

Aren't they based on Debian now? That'd be why.

That's why linux mint is so fucking based, its basically Debian but with actual fucking support, its not quite Ubuntu bloatness, but at the same time not so minimal that its usable, someone coming from windows 10, and even windows 7 would think damn this is lightweight as hell and I can run 2023-2024 software, compared to windows 7 which hasn't seen support in years and isn't going to, at least mint will only be a year or two behind as time goes on, people on unsupported windows are stuck with whatever the last update they got.

Linux Mint has a version called LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition). It's their fall back if anything happens to Ubuntu and it suddenly just disappears overnight.

Mint is Ubuntu. You're thinking about LMDE, which is Mint based on Debian.

I wish LMDE had better support for novidya graphics cards

I used poop!os until it shitted itself trying to reinvent the GNOME
Mint(LMDE especially) seems much more sane after all things that happen around distros

I have been on linux exclusively for about 15 years now. I started with mint, I still use mint. There is no reason to switch. It just works.

Well, there are some appliances where I use debian, especially on servers, SoC devices or whenever a high level of customization is required right from the start.

The thing is: I do not *really* care for my OS. So as long as it gets out of the way while letting me do basic OS tasks like setting up custom services - than it is good enough. The OS is there to run user software, nothing more. Linux mint fits the bill. The Cinnamon DE has only ever been getting better and I never felt forced into something new that I did not want at any point. Now compare that to ubuntu, MS or apple...

Doesn't matter, the issue was that starting with 22.04 development of poop!os was affected by cosmic too much
Which for distro itself is red flag, you install distro and not just DE. System76 had wrong priorities simply put.

I've got mint on my pc, a 15 year old laptop (it had 3 years uptime at one point) and a newer one I got about a year ago. Mint runs perfectly on all. Never experienced any system hangs, never had the de spazz out and do something retarded, never had blackscreens or any bugs. It just works. Anyone using anything else on their personal is either a shill of some kind, retarded or in rare cases they are a dev that needs a very specific up to date package(s). Mint is for white people who want a high quality, working system.

I have been using Linux for around 5 years. I started with PopOs, then hopped several times between Mint Ubuntu and back again. Then I stuck with Mint for a while. Months ago I switched to Debian and now I'm done hopping.

I want to give Mint a try. I have an old 2017 Macbook I want to use.
How do I get it on there? I got the 22.2 Mint ISO. Can I use Rufus or does the Mac need something special to get it working?

Thanks

I've started with ubuntu 6 years ago, then quickly changed to mint.
Now I wanted to try something different and installed fedora.
My startup script doesn't work and gets deleted and I had to add my ssd manually to fstab.
But now I have wayland, which has no --geometry flag for scripts and I have to use qdbus shit. It's basically the same, but some things don't work.
Stick to mint.

I'm on LMDE 6 and 7 came out recently.
Is it possible to upgrade? I mean: update to version 7 without wiping everything and starting from scratch.
