OP here, what's wrong with building a PC in your kitchen? I literally just put in my RAM and M.2 SSD into the motherboard on my electric stovetop (over the faraday bag it came with). It's the best place to do it where I can stay grounded. The outlet is in arm's reach which makes the grounding wrist strap way easier than my desk, and everything besides the kitchen, indoor patio, and bathrooms are carpeted

Same, but I've never taken that degree of precaution for anti static shit. Never used a wrist band either - I just touch something grounded and don't roll around on the carpet before assembling. I've been building PC's since you still needed to know what an ATA ribbon cable is.

I did have my first GPU die in a machine, but I think it was due to a power surge we had during a brown out, although the PC power is on a surge protector. I'm out $75 for shipping, but XFX RMA'd the card and sent me a brand new 7800XT with zero hassle. Better than spending another $500+ on a new card.
