It baffled me when I saw it on my parents’ system. I didn’t know how they could have possibly fucked their install up so bad as to corrupt usb drivers but I guess it was Microsoft. Funny enough, it was the broken preview pane that caused them to try a restore point in the first place, which only fucked things up even worse lmao. 11/10 fuckup Microsoft, I can’t believe you shit the bed this hard.

That plus complete lack of QA. Most tech companies have little to no quality checks and just push shit code into releases. Everybody is so braindead from doomscrolling that they can't remember anything past a few minutes ago. So microshit and all the tech companies doesn't cater to the .1% of people with enough brain capacity to realize all these tech products are literal broken piles of shit.

Also possibly a psyop by the three letter agencies to keep it easy for them to find backdoors.

On Windows
netsh http show servicestate
Shows you all your HTTP.sys registered servers.
The kernel parses the http shit for you and everything, it's really weird and I hate it, but comes with the advantage that https and shit usually just work out of the box and you can register most anything by a path prefix or hostname or whatever.

Apple is a lot better, but still has some of the same issues. It's not as jeeted, but it's beginning to become jeeted. Sequoia is great. Tahoe (the new version of macOS, the one with liquid ass) has a lot of issues; personally, I'm staying on Sequoia for now. Remains to be seen whether they'll correct their course or not. Apple does have the advantage of being both a hardware and software company, and designing really good hardware, so that may carry them even if their software goes bad.

That’s just standard windows behavior and also AMD is to blame since the WHQL driver version is always a slightly newer revision number than the actual driver so windows just overwrites your shit since it thinks it’s outdated. You can disable automatic driver updates to prevent this.

I've lived to see a lot of businesses shutter, and product quality go to absolute shit, it wasn't software, but it made me realize that a successful corporation is likely to fail after three generations worth of employees are aged out. Business alright under boomers? X inherited and continued? Millenials don't want it? It's gonna die once the original owners stop advising whoever comes after. Well, yes, and no. Fact is a lot of the good parts of modern computing wouldn't exist if it weren't for MS, precisely because of what that shittiness gained was exponential advantage in development turnaround. We're dealing with the fallout now of generation upon generation of "just make it work"-isms that scaffolded the entire modern computing world. One could characterize linux has struggling tooth and nail to keep pace, yet had MS not existed and adopted its operating standards, there wouldn't be as many innovations to trickle down to the alternative platforms. It's a bit like the fallacious "we'd have flying cars now if it weren't for Christianity" argument. It is what it is.

PS/2 devices apparently still work.

Humorous observation: of course most systems that actually still _have_ PS/2 ports, aren't exactly officially compatible with Windows 11 either. So if you literally went against system requirements and used bypasses via e.g. Rufus to get Win 11 onto an aging system, then you have an out. If you're a good little sheep that got a new system with Win 11 on it, then you're fucked.

Btw. apparently this is not all the preboot shenaniganry.
I read somewhere that they also fucked up the entry of manual Bitlocker keys.
E.g. if you don't store a key in the TPM but rely on a manual passphrase, apparently after the update the key entry only accepts numeric characters - which normally is a limitation only applying to the RECOVERY key, but not the normal key phrase.

Microsoft fired their entire manual QA team in 2014~2015, replacing them by having devs test their own code.
Then a few years later after that storm had settled, they doubled down and got rid of the huge expense that was their renowned hardware testing setup, where they had rows and rows of huge unique realworld hardware configurations to test Windows on. All of that was tossed out and replaced by virtual machines. Which of course are worth jack shit for testing low-level problems. Hence the fuckery with the SSDs that came about of late. All the instabilities with video driver hardware accelaration. Etc. etc. The list goes on and on.
A few years after that they switched their development model into a 6-month 2-phase ping-pong: first 6 months of the year focused ONLY on feature development; next 6 focused ONLY on patching features already in the production code. Which prompted everyone that cared about meeting targets and not being fired for being unproductive, to ACTUALLY switch to a toss-it-all-up-against-the-wall-and-see-what-sticks project mentality. Come hell or high water, functioning or broken, everything - MUST -- S-H-I-P-!!

But then under Satya the bean counters figured out how much money 'no expenses too large' actually was; and they got rid of it. They didn't just stop at downsizing it. They GOT COMPLETELY RID OF ALL OF IT.

It's all virtual machines now.
Aka utterly 200% fucking worthless for detecting any actual low-level hardware problems.

Just don't encrypt your boot drive.
Encrypting your boot drive is only interesting if you expect a threat actor to actually gain physical access to your system and put malware on it.
Which they aren't going to be fucking doing that way in this day and age. They have ample other ways to get access. E.g. by turning your own USB-connected mouse, keyboard, headset, etc. into a badware instructing the download of a malware payload.

Just encrypt your data drives with a basic bitch password so that if the disk breaks down and you want to trash it, you can do so safely without risk of someone plucking it from the trash and recovering your data from it. Or if someone DOES break into your home with the intent of swiping your PC, at least they still can't access the data on the drives without the PW.

Encrypting your boot drive is FUCKING MENTAL for a regular consumer desktop PC.
(And btw. Microsoft are total assholes for forcing it on consumers with Windows 11 Home.)

Okay you got me there, devices that are expected to stay indoors in a reasonably safe environment generally have no reason to be fully encrypted. However there's these things called laptops that are portable computers that can be taken out of someone's sight. If they compromise the boot partition, at best they get your passwords. Or they open up the laptop and mess with one of the USB ports to replace it with a badware device. Then on next boot, the device opens a terminal, downloads a payload and executes it and we're also off to the races. (Will you own a laptop with hardware intrusion detection capabilities as a consumer? Probably not.)

No this is a case of Windows having the problems you accuse Linux distros of having. Of course I'm gonna point and laugh you insufferable faggot.

macOS is shit because old software quickly stops even launching, unnotarised software makes you have to jump through hoops, and overall it's gay, retarded and don't get me started about Metal 2.

Do you retards even have jobs? Like jobs where the company gives you a work laptop? Because I do, and Windows 10 is on it (they want me to schedule an appointment to upgrade to 11 but I'm not doing that).

This
>if you aren't on the latest point update of the version, half the inbuilt shit stops working and Apple won't let you install half of their own shit from the app store
And the macfags take this. They have for years. I remember it being like that on 10.13. It probably was like that since 10.6.7 or whenever they introduced the appstore.
Recently I had to deal with boot camp assistant trying to download the drivers for someone's macbook after reinstalling windows.
>try downloading the drivers through bootcamp, error
>remember the factlet about updates which is waiting through 5 bootscreens thinking "did it break? is it bootlooping?"
>fail to download drivers (30 minutes for a <2gb download over 700mbps broadband and wifi ac, NICE FUCKING SERVERS APPLE) with cryptic error (probably could not write to NTFS)
>realize there are 5 year old drivers in Downloads, fuck waiting 30 more minutes we installing this
>try to copy to NTFS... its mounted read only and I can find no options to mount as rw after I could barely find my way around the insult to UX that is Finder
>search how to write to NTFS on mac
>"Step 1. Open Terminal"
KEK. So what is the appeal of this over Linux? Maybe if you're into bottoming I can see the appeal but most people, myself included, aren't.
Anyway I mounted it as rw from the commandline and copied it without problems, installed them on windows and it installed Apple Software Update so I updated them to the latest without problems too.
Much fucking easier than dealing with fagOS for another second. Gave the guy his mACKbook and said "I never want to see a fucking Macintosh again in my life"

It's still bullshit. The fuck is the difference between say 10.13 and 10.13.1, that I need to update to install first party software?
I edit sources.list in Ubuntu 10.04 and FIFTEEN FUCKING YEARS LATER I can install software with one click. The pedo-protecting bastards at Canonical can keep repos up for it, Apple can't keep the version for each update up of their own apps on their servers? Oh right, they're still running from 56k dialup from what I've seen with recent the bootcamp misadventure. 30 fucking minutes to download 1.5GB are you fucking kidding?

Ballmer is so underappreciated it's unreal. He took a company that was slated for breaking up at the hands of multiple governments, getting sued left and right, led by a complete asshole that everyone hated. And turned it into a business powerhouse. He probably knows nothing at all about tech, but he was a savant businessman. Nadella is going to have the exact opposite retrospective one day. He presided over Microsoft turning to shit in all markets, but managed to make MSFT the largest company on Earth by virtue of sucking down government money for cloud buildout.

If Nadella took over when Ballmer did, Microsoft would have been broken into pieces and would have given Windows to the government.

If Ballmer stayed on instead of Nadella, we would have a competitive Windows Phone and OneDrive would be a genuine competitor to iCloud.

Windows update screwed up my grub install *once* in 2002 (it didn't even delete any data) and I never put it on another machine I owned.

Nope. Still just a check box. Or a single command if you prefer CLI.
It even works for S mode.
