Should I switch to Linux?
I'm on Windows 11, should I switch to Linux? I hate how Microsoft forced us needing accounts to sign into our desktops and now they have this copilot shit that takes screenshots of your screen every few seconds. How is Linux? Should I switch to Linux? The only concern I have is that I heard steam games have issues with Linux

Back up your entire Windows drive, install Linux Mint on a new drive, see how it works with your Steam games, and if you like it, then stick with it, otherwise roll back to your Windows installation and start over.
Personally, I feel like using Linux today feels more like using Windows 7 back in the day than Windows 11 does. Linux (especially normie-friendly distros like Mint) just works, it doesn't have spyware or adware, it's cancer-free, and nowadays it's a lot better at running games than it used to be. Just try it.

You can check ProtonDB and see if your favorite games works well with the Steam Proton compatibility layer.

Depends entirely on the games you play
Basically if the game has kernel level anti cheat it's probably not going to work with some exceptions, for me The Finals, Battlebit and Squad all work.
For single player games basically everything works.

For better game performance and compatibilty go with Cachy OS.

It's one of those things where, "if you have to ask, the answer is no".
Signing up for an account and disabling whatever bloat you want is pretty much a one time annoyance, maybe do it a couple of years at the biannual update, but that's pretty much it- an annoyance at worst.

Have a concrete well defined reason why you want to switch.
Like
>I want a career in IT and I want to learn unix systems
>I want to learn to code low level, and I heard Linux has better dev tools
>I want to host and sell "mischievous" pictures of girls of questionable age, so I need a robust and secure OS that doesn't spy on me

Shit like that. Those are valid reasons to get Linux.
But simply going Linux because your favorite youtuber scared you about Memepilot and shit, I promise you'd find yourself crawling back to windows soon.

>Friendly, helpful replies in a thread about switching to Linux
I'm genuinely surprised. Shocked, even.

You won't have 100% software compatibility and it's just something you'll have to live with.

Microsoft/Windows has shown an increasing, unwavering pattern of enshittification and decline with its products. If you liked the look, feel, and functionality of Windows 7, then you're never going to get that ever again from Microsoft. Maybe OP just wants to get used to an operating system where it's not all downhill from here.

It's always bothered me from day one, and I'm no criminal at all, I just don't like being treated like a cattle piece of shit who exists to have his private life analyzed and sold for profit. Like imagine if companies built cameras into their toilets so that they could record you taking a shit and sell the videos to fetish porn sites to make extra money. That's not even that much more invasive than spying on your nudes and reading your private conversations. It's creepy as fuck to think about

People like this are abused wives putting up with their abuser and I was that but now I'm on Fedora KDE and it is vastly superior to Windows. More intuitive and user friendly and AI gens are 3x faster

It's mostly about the same. You could get slightly better/worse performance depending on the game.

>“Flushing is not available without an active subscription to PoopCam”

This is beyond enshittification.

If you don't play games with kernel anti cheat give it a try. All offline games should work. It might be a bit confusing at first but you'll get the hang of it. Remember that google is your friend and if you have problems or are not sure how to do something just search it. Arch wiki is also great for problem solving even if you don't use arch Linux. If after using it for a while you find out you don't like it you can always go back to windows.

Linux is a great choice.
> Games
Most games run via Steam
> Productivity apps
Replace Word/Excell with LibreOffice.
> Adobe?
Pirate Photoshop, or run Krita if you're mainly doing art. Replace Premiere and AfterEffects with Davinci Resolve which runs natively on Linux.
> Web
Use Chrome or Firefox on Linux and get the same experience.

If there's an essential app that you need for professional reasons and you can't do without Windows, try dual boot. Keep the rest of your life on Linux, where it will be safer.
