"Crash" is bit vague term but,
whatever you do, don't disable processor turbo mode but set it to 'enabled' or 'aggressive'.
You don't want to gimp your cpu.
Maximum cpu frequency can be at 100% too.
If you have overheating issues look into undervolting your cpu, it's really easy in Windows with intelXTU or simply via your bios if possible.
If you have frequent crashes check Event Viewer and see what is happening there.

I think a lot of it is just not wanting windows, while also wanting to avoid linux. For programming for example, you get a unix-like system with actually good terminal emulators and shit, and it's guaranteed to work just fine without having to tinker or tweak it or bother with DE crashes and whatnot. I don't know why creatives don't just use windows but maybe it's just that windows is generally unfashionable? I think this stuff is unnecessary, I use simple calibration images and tweak by sight in my bathroom at night with the light off. Even if it is imperfect, looking at RGB values on reference imagesd allows me to be more precise with colors in GIMP and produce edits that look great on different displays of any kind. The RGB value reference is, honestly, the #1 most important thing, as far as getting colors "right" on the rare occasion I need to for any reason. I'm not a pro, so what do I know, though?

So SSDs keep getting faster and faster, there's no physical limit.

HDDs meanwhile are reading data from physical magnetic impressions on rotating platters, which means that the latency is limited by how physically fast the spindle can move to the correct location and the platter can spin to the correct point, and the bandwidth is limited by how fast the platter is spinning for the spindle to read off of it. You can make the platter spin faster but you run into increasing mechanical issues with making it really fast - and current HDDs are already spinning pretty fucking fast. So you can't really make them faster without running into mechanical issues with making the mechanism physically move faster while still being precise and reliable enough.

How can I download mods from Steam Workshop without owning the game on Steam?

So I was doing some tidying and found my CD collection and it's occurred to me I don't actually have any way to play them anymore. I was planning on using my PS5 but it turns out that can't play CD. I'm looking at getting a dedicated player but after sorting through all the chinkshit that doesn't have the features I need I'm left with expensive "audiophile" stuff. I'm after a small player (so none of those Marrantz, Onkyo, Denon things that are bigger than the playstation) with a digital out, a remote, a display, preferably slot/tray loading, preferably black, and the lower the price the better.

-Tangent CD II - Price is okay I guess at £160 but no display
-Pro-Ject CD Box E - Expensive at £200
-SMSL PL150 - More reasonable at £140, the downside is it's the silver one and the black one would cost a bit more and I'd have to order from abroad
-auna iTuner - It's much bigger and more expensive at nearly £220 but when paying even £140 for just a CD player seems a bit silly to me this one at least has a DAB and FM radio and Spotify.

In an audio chain, the transducer is where the vast majority of the sound quality is destroyed. Your audio chain is digital "content" -> TV -> RCA -> amp -> speaker cable -> speakers. The only transducers in this setup are your speakers. Bookshelf speakers are notorious for not sounding great. Your digital "content" is probably low quality audio anyway. Any audio mastered for TV sounds shit from the get-go. Those speakers with a class D amp will be fine for most things, but don't expect rumbling booms during an MCU fight. My fav test for TV audio is that low thump at the beginning of Fellowship when Sauron looses the Ring.

Please note that I'm not saying "drink the audiophile snake oil." On the contrary, I'm saying "avoid the audiophile snake oil and just get an adequate amp."

There is a lot of confusion : SATA can mean the physical connector and a protocol. The SATA protocol can be used over SATA connectors and over M.2 connector. M.2 connector can also do AHCI and NVMe. A lot of people used M.2 and NVMe were interchangeable. A lot of older motherboards or drives didn't use the full capacity of the connector. So you have to know what you want exactly before buying

I used to have two dell monitors, and whenever I would sit to play and actually enjoy an immersive game I could just hit the power button on one monitor and it would turn off the screen but not actually disable the monitor. I liked this because I could keep open d*scord or a browser or something else on the other monitor, so I could glance at it if I needed and then turn the screen off when I didn't need it so I could focus on the main monitor

now I have 3 LG monitors and hitting the power button actually powers them off and it screws up my monitors for a second trying to shift from 3 detected monitors to 2.

Have you isolated the packet loss to your router or to your ISP's router? Because if the packet loss is due to your IPS over selling their bandwidth, all the ethernet in the world will not fix your problem.

Your router is at (probably) 192.168.0.1. Ping that for a few hours and see if you get packet loss. Windows ping need /t so it keeps pingging until you CTRL-C.

Your ISP's router can guessed from a traceroute. Type tracert 1.1.1.1 into a terminal. The 2nd line is your ISP's router. Ping it for a few hours to see if you have more packet loss.

Another test would be to get a really long ethernet cable and just plug your PC into the router, draping the cable along the floor. Play some games and see if you still get packet loss.

Consumer laptops are not very durable. Used business laptops are typically somewhat more longer-lasting and can be decent buys used, but as you can see by the laptop market lots of people still buy average normie or even gaming laptops, and those are really a crapshoot to buy used. It depends massively on what you want to store.
Typically 300GB is probably enough for the average collection of small files that you will amass during normal usage: documents, personal pictures, memes you save, PDFs, spreadsheets, maybe schoolwork for students, etc. This is why for years macbooks came with 500GB by default for example, or why phones typically come with 256GB or even 128GB.

However there's a lot of types of data that will quickly overflow this, if you happen to want it. For example: a music collection can easily be several dozen GB, even 100+GB if you've got a couple dozen thousand tracks in high quality. Modern games can be very heavy: 20-50GB has been normal for years, the biggest modern games can be 150-200+GB alone. Movies take several GB each, several dozen GB if it's a high quality encode, so if you're downloading or ripping movies locally that can easily take hundreds of GB. Some programming languages are notorious for requiring lots of space, javascript and rust in particular for example, they can easily eat up hundreds of gigabytes of space. Some other software can take a lot of space that quickly balloons: for example, blender files can easily be 200MB each and if you're doing a lot of work in blender, and saving backup versions, that very quickly grows to dozens of gigabytes. I think photoshop is similar for its raw PSDs. Things like that. Dozens of gigabytes doesn't sound like the end of the world, but if you're at 250GB from your OS and normal random files and now you're storing 40GB of photoshop raws, suddenly you're at 95% disk usage and you gotta start deleting shit.

So if you're only doing basic stuff that doesn't need space and just storing basic documents and files, it's fine. But you'll be limited in your ability to do anything that requires space.

They would need to have compromised your WLAN before you set up KDE connect so they could capture the keys exchanged during the pairing process. After that everything is encrypted with those keys. You can defeat that with a 50 cent aliexpress USB Ethernet adapter if you really want. It's reasonably secure but it's not serious business either. They keep it on LAN for a reason.

Syncthing exists if you want secure for general internet file sharing.

Is there a way to stop my PC trying to be "smart" about detecting when my TV is on/off and refusing to switch to it when it's off or automatically switching back to my main monitor etc? But it would be best if you connected all of them to ethernet, because it would give you very fast, one-network wifi in your entire house. And then you pretty much wouldn't need other cables.
But if you really can't, then if the meshes will be in range of each other, you will still have wifi everywhere, but slower (because it will only source from one of them)

If the form factor is compatible then yeah, your trouble is gonna be with the different OS. If it's linux it should probably work except if you need to set up extra drivers that the desktop doesn't have installed, though if it's not an autistic distribution it might work just fine

how much of a bad idea is it to jump between learning different programming languages?
i have severe unmedicated adhd so i jump between interests all the time. i wanna mostly learn webdev (already started and doing it on and off) but also i am interested in learning python for general use/general learning AND i'm also interested in game dev (mainly love2d, it's probably harder building everything myself but seems more fun and apparently lua is an easy language to learn), although this one is mostly for hobby. does anyone here have any similar experiences to this jumping around?

You're learning basically three different things: how to program in general (transferrable skills in how you think about code and computers), how to write the specific syntax of your language (how do you make a for-loop in X? wait do you need braces here or not?), and then the deeper advanced quirks of using your specific language, which probably won't really come into play until you're more comfortable with programming

IMO you should be fine, unless you notice yourself starting to mix up the syntax in which case you'll have to stop
I don't remember how I learned but I do know that as an experienced programmer using multiple languages daily is completely normal, as is just learning new languages now and then all while using multiple ones I already know
