Why can't we solve reading on computer monitors yet?
Reading on paper is still 2 billion times better

why can't computers defeat paper? We don't even know what layout is best

Light is the enemy. the problem is we need a media that works like e-ink when reading and LEDs when doing anything else.

Solve that and monitors will be solved.

your calculator screen already solved that

e-ink needs to become faster, true color and solve the ghosting issue
when it does, it'll reign supreme

I'm happy with moon reader pro. It lets me sync everything between my PC and mobile devices, lets me make notes easily, is fine to read and look at.

Real question is why can't we get a $100 e-ink, 24" monitor for me to hang vertically next to my normal one and use both to their strengths? The fucking Mira Pro is $2k.

just redshift the fuck out of your monitor and it's better

setting the colors on the monitor directly looks better than this software shit:
ddcutil setvcp 16 100
ddcutil setvcp 18 50
ddcutil setvcp 1a 0

i ran this and it didn't do anything

try 'ddcutil capabilities' to see if your monitor supports settings the colors this way. if it doesn't it's trash (sometimes you can at least set the color preset with ddcutil setvcp 14)

sucks, well, if you haven't already, at least set up some hotkeys in your OS to change display brightness with 'ddcutil setvcp 10 - 10' and 'ddcutil setvcp 10 + 10'

I actually get more eye strain reading on paper. Maybe I broke my eyes somehow
Anonymous No.106994273 [Report]
I simply like holding a physical stack of paper in my hands. Simple as that.

>We don't even know what layout is best
.chm (compiled html) is the best readable file format

I made a thread about this before and everyone went full stockholm syndrome and tried to defend .epub even though that is a shit format that turns every book layout into something that is worse than the typewriter.

.chm is lightweight, supports links, the layout is zoomable and changes layout when you resize it. Its an extremely light weight format, very rare for it to go over 3mb

>proprietary format
gee I wonder why no one uses it
Anonymous No.106994722 [Report] >>106994784
>>106994437
fact remains a good format exists and it is not difficult for any decent UI programmer to come up with a format equal to .chm

Aren't epubs also just html?
Anonymous No.106994784 [Report]
>>106994722
you can present an epub however the fuck you want

Retard, don't you know that CHM was made by Microsoft?

I just know that Kindle reader is shit and cant format anything worth shit. The thing about .chm is that its not dependent on any proprietary reader so it always looks good. The thing about .chm is that its just html so anyone can make their own version of it since html is open to anyone

e-ink could be better but the patents are holding it back
