Same link, select Ohook option
You can also use Office.com if your needs are very minimal
or try OnlyOffice/LibreOffice and set it to save in MSOffice file formats

It's not true, I have never had Windows delete a partition it did not understand without me pressing the wrong dialog button or writing the wrong command. I will believe it till I see it. I dual boot both OS never had the issues Linux users keep claiming exist.
That doesn't mean it's completely a hoax but there is a lack of evidence and recreation to proof it actually happened.
Windows even warns you in the partition manager that there might be an OS or data in a unreadable partition, if you try to delete it.

7800x3d does not need game bar since every core is big cache core.

If you're talking about "game mode" then its just a setting that game bar automatically toggles for you. Game mode also just changes the process priorities a bit, if you're not CPU bound the difference is probably immeasurable.
Anonymous No.107023799 [Report]
>>107023696
Game mode has nothing to do with game bar and it's available on LTSC without it, it changes some system settings when it's detecting a fullscreen app, like notifications or screensaver or power profile.
Game bar is an overlay process that, when launched, gets detected by special amd lasso service, the service then assumes that the parent process of a game bar is a game, and ties that game to X3D CCD.

I haven't done a reinstall since I install windows 10 like 8 years ago, not sure if I'm missing any programs. I got msstore, winget, gamebar, codec extensions and media features if needed for vidya just in case, and GOG offline installers and steam grabs all the redistributables. disabled everything in firewall and settings i didn't need. not sure if i'm missing anything else.

recommend me cool useful programs, preferably foss but if good i dont mind proprietary

I don't know how interested you're in for another ebook reader, but have you tried Readest? It's basically Foliate (the ebook reader you see posted in those linux desktop threads) for Windows. Probably not the best for pdf documents, but I find it aesthetically pleasing while reading ebooks.

Looks pretty nice, my only issue and why i avoided ebook readers and music players is because from my past experiences with musicbee and calibre is that they like to fuck around with the files and want you to put shit in their own library folders, and I prefer to have stuff ordered in Documents / Pictures / Music in my own way, does this program just open files or does it force it's own file library management too

been dual booting Windows 10 and 11 even on the same drive for years and I have never had this issue. Granted, the bios has it's own partition priority which detects Linux and Windows and lets you chose which one comes first.

But I also had tried it on PCs with super basic bios and never happened as well. And, in the case that it does happen, recovering the boot partition just needs a Live Linux USB and a command, and that's it

I bought one of the 26tb external HDD's seagate has on sale and I am noticing something wierd

If I copy a directory to that drive, and use the normal windows explorer folder viewer search for the same word in both directories, the copied directory on the external HDD will serve less results: It's not searching within the file's contents or metadata or as many subfolders as it is on other drives

Conversely, I can open images on that drive I can't on other drives due to being past the normal windows path length limit

Anybody know what the cause of the former might be and how to change it? Is it a file system thing (it's ex-fat, which I don't think I've ever used before), or a windows indexing/search setting thing, etc? I'm on Windows 10

Windows Update never deletes and replaces old files, just adds more and more versioned aliases to winsxs.
It getting out of hand with some installs surpassing 64GB was one of the reasons MS switched to semiannually major upgrades that are allowed to purge all the old shit.

Linux just replaces old versions of libraries unless explicitly required and packaged, 99.9% of the time latest generic version is shared by all dependent packages, so size of a fully updated install should never be much different from installed once and frozen.

Its probably because you've formatted it as exFAT, the search in windows makes heavy use of the NTFS indexing capabilities. Also exFAT doesn't even have journalling (it was designed for small removable media but without the FAT32 limitations), you probably really want to use a real FS for a proper drive.

What image viewer are you using? Do you have Win32 long paths enabled?

store apps search by name shows only partial results
"winget list" does not show source or ID for store apps, instead it shows MSIX path like it was sideloaded package
explicitly displaying properties or installing by ID works fine but autoupdate does not list sotre apps at all
UnigetUI does not list most of the store apps at all or lists them in "Local PC" category instead of "MS Store"

"Get-AppXPackage" cannot display store package IDs of installed packages.

Yes but this means it's also able to handle updating programs/packages that did not originate from winget. Hence there's a chance it can still update your store packages even though winget list doesn't match a store ID

Or, if you rely ONLY on data from the "list", it can install something absolutely irrelevant. Picrel.

There's still another way to get store URL from full MSIX name and from there you could extract ID by parsing web requests or automating GUI clicks.
Registry lookup is still the least painful and unreliable way to go here.

Yes? It should be pretty straight forward to understand, when you are in the windows installer part where you can choose your partitions and/or where to install the os, you simply just wipe everything except for the D: partition, beforehand check which drive is D:, for example my NVME SSD where I install my OS is a 1TB drive marked as Disk 1 by default, my SATA SSD is easy to spot because it's Disk X and has 500GB, but my HDD is a 1TB Disk 0 so I have to be careful not to wipe that when selecting what to delete and what to keep, learn what number is dedicated to your drive if you have the issue of them being the same size. Also if say your C: partition is the only other disk beyond the D: disk, then you can simply just wipe C: as it'll obviously be a windows partition by default formated to have a boot and a recovery partition, while your D: disk won't have that if it was just formatted for storage.

I recommend the iot version, other than it being based on windows 11 24H2 and if gaming is very important playing the latest and greatest you might have problems with anti-cheat software because some these companies don't want you using an EOL version of windows asfaik 24H2 is not yet EOL but when that happens you MIGHT run into these issues not 100% sure.
Because some of them are already forcing things like secure boot.
That version is frozen so in the future you might get problems however if a new ltsc comes out just use that.

Microwin might lower the bloat, if I remember right it is supported. and enterprise supports disabling full telemetry which pro doesn't. but you will have the typical windows 11 problems.

You literally use a separate piece of software to watch the videos, but you still use the actual platform to browse, which is like 95% the interfacing you do with the service other than actually watching the videos, during which it makes zero difference what platform you're watching it on as long as the video is playing??

In what way does it just 'feel' better? Like, are you spending the entire time watching your videos constantly adjusting the volume, and resizing the video?? What the FUCK

Tried looking it up online and some people are having issues installing it on unsupported hardware, but that always seems to be the case with unsupported hardware.

If it's going to get automatically installed later anyway then I'll just wait for it like I usually do cumulative updates. Just thought it was a little weird it's not labeled as a preview. Maybe they want us to install it asap so they removed the preview label? Or maybe they forgot to add the label?

Very unlikely, mate. Especially since w10 and w11 have the same kernel, meaning the same drivers apply to both. Any restriction made by software devs would be entirely arbitrary (as anything that has to do with w11 really).
But I don't think Valve, Browsers and such will stop supporting W10 for, at the very least, the 3 more years the ESU will exist. And more surely even longer.
I don't see windows 10 losing support for important software in at least 5 or more years. Definitely not before windows 12 comes out.

Because it's an LTS(c). If you have never used linux before this might be hard to understand but it's frozen in time and over time you will run into problems because some clown might require you to use new stuff that might be in a future 27H2 that 25H2 doesn't have. (this is not a hypothetical, Microsoft added X12 Ultimate to SAC versions and if you were using an older LTSC or even LTSB you wouldn't have that) At the end of the day iot ltsc and ltsc are really meant for the enterprise who want a stable system not an evolving one and for those who don't want to be forced into microsoft's ecosystem + Windows as a service and want windows as a platform for their applications that's really the only good version.

Also some supposedly non-store apps distributed as msixbundle file can get taken over by store and stop getting updates from winget, mostly happens to powershell, windows terminal etc ms apps.
Pic related, I have non-store "Microsoft.WindowsTerminal" installed.
And I do NOT have store "Windows Terminal [9N0DX20HK701]" installed.
And non-store "Microsoft.WindowsTerminal" does not reference store ID [9N0DX20HK701] anywhere in its description.
Guess what happens if I press enter to uninstall [9N0DX20HK701] ?
It will uninstall non-store "Microsoft.WindowsTerminal" (and close its active window)

I have not yet found a reliable fully automatic solution to managing store apps without installing store gui.
Might just keep a note with all the manually installed store app IDs and a script that force reinstalls them on a timer.

Most of their revenue comes from the enterprise world, which is essentially just holding them by the balls with Active Directory, which ofc they use through Windows, not to mention adding Office and other services. While Windows doesn't make a lot of money by itself, it's the backbone of MSs operations, they will never get rid of Windows, that's why the good-bad cycle exists, they can't afford Windows to be unpopular for too long because that means huge loses, one way or another they have to backtrack on retarded decisions because Windows is what holds MS together, it's just that rn they don't know what the fuck do in the consumer side, plus the AI race, at some point they will backtrack on a lot of shit.

Yes, you like AI shit in notepad/paint etc. Yes, you want your OS to do shit without your consent. Yes, you WILL sign into a microsoft account because look at all these features you get! I don't think anyone in the windows division has a solid plan for windows other than throw LLM's at it and copy apple's design language for the next release, and that's really sad imo.

Does anyone here actually know how GUIDs work? I just had a whole battle with disk cloning and I'm still not exactly sure what happened.
>Be me
>clone old windows install on SATA SSD to NVMe SSD with clonezilla
>Unplug old SSD
>Boot up on NVMe SSD, everything works fine
>Plug old SSD back in a week or 2 later after verifying the new disk works, format it in a live environment
>System won't boot, says the boot device is inaccessible
>Probably a GUID conflict, change the *OLD* SSD's GUID
>System still won't boot, error code 0xc000000e
>Unplug old SSD, system STILL won't boot, same error code
>Very confused, fire up installation media, rebuild the boot files
>Everything works now

Maybe I'm retarded, but what the fuck? Why would changing the GUID on the OLD drive render the entire system unbootable? Keep in mind the the EFI partition was on the NEW SSD, not the old one, and that everything was booting totally fine before plugging the old drive back in. Remember, having multiple ESPs on one system is actually a violation of the UEFI spec, and what happens when there's more than one is totally up to whatever substances your motherboard's firmware author was huffing that day so he wouldn't throw himself into the suicide net.

when using either TSforge or KMS38, mas script tells me windows is activated but updates don't progress beyond version 21H2, I assume enterprise iots ltsc goes beyond 21H2, right?

>>107070262
>Why are you trying to change the product key?
I'm assuming the reason updates are stuck at 21H2 is due to the activation page stating it's an oem key. or is it the fact it's a VM thats causing issues?

No, IoT LTSC 2021 is frozen on 21H2. If you want 22H2 on it you install the enablement package from the OP.

okay, thank you that helps a lot.

one more question: how many outbound connections is normal while idling for iot ltsc? I used win-util to disable telemetry but still get random outbound connections while idling.

If you've followed the guide, then perhaps you removed something you shouldn't have during the debloat section. And in all honesty, iot ltsc doesn't really need to be debloated. If you've given up on trying to find a solution to your problem, I suggest you do a reinstall and follow this guide instead: https://rentry.org/windowsinstallguide

You probably don't need the entire windows drive, but you can maybe just save only your user(s) folder, and if you want to cut down on more, just save the downloads, documents, pictures, music, and videos folders, assuming you don't have anything important outside of the aforementioned folders. Usually the user folder would also be quite heavy due to all the junk that software puts into appdata and whatnot.

Friendo, honestly if you're this anxious about it, just reinstall Windows and don't worry about the guide.

-Before that, look up multiple videos on nvcleanstall to get an idea on using it.

-Perhaps also look up how to use snappy driver installer origin (SDIO) on youtube

-After Windows has installed download shutup10 and apply the recommended settings and restart

-Apply telemetry group policy edit here >>107074603

-The guide you used is wrong about disabling automatic updates. You want to *enable* the group policy for 'Configure automatic updates' and then set the value to 2.

-Some other links: install winget https://github.com/asheroto/winget-install and/or scoop https://scoop.sh/
Both of them can download shutup10 if you don't want the portable program to sit in a random folder somewhere. Scoop can also be used to install winget.

I thought that removing stuff from the iso like in that guide was better than using shutup10 and similar tools.

He also said shutup10 fails sometimes. But maybe it's just an autist.

I just want something that stops telemetry completely, or at least I know what information I'm giving to Microsoft.

Its weird to me that something like shutup10 completely shuts up Microsoft bullshit.

Windows telemetry runs deep, and shutup10 + group policy is probably the closest you can get without breaking your system as far as laymen goes. Outside of that, you're probably going to have to look at firewalls like glasswire (to see connections and block it) or simplewall (to manually allow each and every connection made by your system)
