A Serious Proposal
We need to talk about the most useless key: Caps Lock. I have replaced mine with a bean. It is a tactile reminder to not use the key, and in emergencies, it is a nutrient. This is peak efficiency. Who else has ascended?

Highly irrelevant when Windows 95 came out. So now just makes the keyboard look even.

you become dependent on this and then cant use any machine other than yours. it hurts your ability to adapt in different places in the world. this is the first step in redefining all your macros, using azerty, demanding a keyboard that splits spacebar into new keys, not being able to be productive unless youre in your expensive comfy chair, etc.

making a personalized software config is a different thing because you can largely take it with you anywhere, but even then you should avoid anything crazy or idiosyncratic. stick to common consensus key bindings and well-known settings and tools. NOT because the consensus is the best or most right, but because you need to be able to have mobility and not be slowed down when youre outside your comfort zone. it's a concern of general survivability, you need to be able to fight with the available weapons and work with the available tools.

Otherwise just remap it
>>107035330
JIS the best for that and almost in general. I just wish they had an extra key next to left shift instead of making the backspace small. Small spacebar and more thumb keys should be stantard. The kana layout on it makes no sense.

no, you seem hitting caps requires pushing down on caps, then lifting up from caps,

then it requires doing the same thing once you're finished with it

pressing down on the shift key only requires pressing down, and doing nothing else

yes it is a dependency.
but I am not typing on other people's computers so what do I care.

First I learnt dvorak.
Then I started learning vim.
While I was learning vim I remapped the caps and esc.
Then I got an ergo split keyboard, and use thumb buttons for backspace, delete, alt, shift and control.
Also using a macro layer for non-alphanumeric characters.

Dvorak is available on any OS which is why I chose it.
Unlike Colemak, which is only available on Windows from Windows 11.
I can't type in Qwerty because of that.
Alternate keyboard layouts also suck if I need to use shortcut based tools like GIMP or Blender because their keybindings are made for Qwerty and then I have to switch between layouts to type.

I'm using vim plugin on whatever editor I'm given.
I don't have a vim config as I don't want to be tied to a single machine but customising too hard.

Switching Keyboards isn't an issue though.
Which was surprising I thought I would be unable to use my pinkies for shift but they still have their memory.
And my typing speed is unaffected.

>>107037560
I use powertoys on windows / keyboard settings on linux to remap it.
