Im about to make the switch from windows 11 to linux. I like fedora, but i also wanna do AI and game. Is nobara better? how much work do i have to do to fedora to make it as good for nvidia/cuda/gaming and nobara?

Fedora doesn't ship with any propriety packages, so the version of ffmpeg that it ships with is "ffmpeg-free" which means it hasn't been compiled with support of proprietary codecs such as H.265. Maybe I could word that better and someone could correct me but basically the default ffmpeg package in fedora MAY lead you to having issues with playing certain video and audio. So, ya know, be aware if you plan to just use straight Fedora.

Yes Fedora is good for AI, if you have AMD: ROCm is in the repo, if you have Nvidia, you already have CUDA. But idk, I'm not a fan of Nobara, I'd just go with Fedora and play around. Yes, it's annoying because you need to install codecs, but thats basically all.

I think immutability is useless for nearly almost all use cases that are not office computers. The added security is nice, but if you mostly use software from your distro default repo and avoid acting like a complete retard, it’s a bit overkill.

Linux installation model is actually simpler than windows, from the user perspective.
As for nightly builds, they may require dependencies newer than whatever fedora is currently shipping.
Probably needs to be run in an arch distrobox or something, if no isolated package format is available.
All I know is nightly builds are more of a developer thing, not something a user should typically expect to work OOTB on Linux.

The Linux ecosystem has nuance. You can find the precise distro for any of your needs. You want the "beginner-friendly, just works" distribution? Guess what! Those exist. Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora. Three of the most popular, most user friendly, most actively supported distros that exist. Install one of them, shut the fuck up, and let the rest of us have our nuance. Ffs.

Dude this is /g/. None of us have used "nobara" or whatever other obscure "noobiemaxxed" Linux distro came out this week. Yeah, that desktop screenshot looks nice. It's probably just Fedora with a few extra packages/DE upgrades installed by default. Your specific distro is never going to be the one everyone else uses. If you want to look up fixes for your shit, you're going to have to just look up generic Fedora solutions most of the time. Do you have a triple digit IQ? Are you capable of solving problems? Then just give Nobara a try, see how you like it. What do you have to lose? Linux is soooooo much better than modern windows.
