AMD dropped RDNA1 and RDNA2 support, RDNA2 didn't even made it to 5 years, Turing is still supported in the foresable future and just received DLSS4, unlike RDNA2/3 that haven't gotten FSR4 and apparently RDNA2 will never get it

Dropping support for Vega was bad but barely justifiable due to how dogshit Vega was and the significant changes in RDNA, still completely anti consumer since Vega parts in APUs had less than two years of support, but RDNA2 it's their most popular arch since Polaris and still supported on consoles

If Intel had better Linux support they would be a no brainer now

oh, Ryzen Z2 APUs launched this year with RDNA2 iGPUs, so AMD support on some parts is measures in months

there's still quite some drawbacks on GNU/Linux, Mesa's implementation of anti-lag 2 is far from what you get on windows or with nvidia reflex (and it hasn't released yet since it was merged for mesa 25.3), there's nothing mike VSR unless you build a pretty bad implementation of it with a patched gamescope, and things like AFMF 2 simply don't exist (unless you consider the recent port of lossless scaling a replacement)

it's not just the age of the 6000 series (which is still a full generation newer than Turing, which Nvidia is still supporting for the forseeable future), it's the fact that RDNA 2 has the full DX12 Ultimate feature set. Yes the ray tracing sucks, but other features like mesh shaders work just fine. And even the ray tracing can be playable if implemented well, like in Doom Dark Ages

I'd even understand dropping RDNA support for lack of DX12 Ultimate support, that's what Nvidia is doing here soon with Pascal and older GPUs. But RDNA 2 can run every single new game. Dropping it is just (in the most charitable interpretation) a sign of lack of resources in a slowly dying product division, or (in the least charitable interpretation) a hamfisted attempt to boost RX 9000 sales.

I use a radeon VII and its literally never been better on linux, the emulated rt support is good enough now, that I can actually run metro exodus redux at a reasonable framerate, its about as fast as an rx 6600 despite lacking any dedicated hardware.

It’s not so much that AMD is EOL’ing RDNA2 that makes me upset, it’s that they’re doing so without ever having given the cards the support they deserve. Unfortunately this is just Mesa's software renderers compiled to Windows. Would definitely be cool if the Gallium3D or Vulkan drivers could be ported over, but that would require the kernel drivers to expose a public interface.

So somebody at amd leaked the int8 fsr4 version probably because at that point they already knew rdna2 is getting axed. Shame it needs an ancient driver to function properly. Would've been a nice, albeit still premature, sendoff if it worked with the latest whql driver.
