Flying cars in the form of eVTOLs already exist but rich people prefer helicopters.

What's the point when lift will cost a massive amount of energy and roads will still be needed. If there are no roads then everything needs to be ATC controlled and drivers will have to be licensed pilots. If you solve that problem then there's still the issue of lift.

It would instead be a traffic swarm, a giant shape in the sky where if you're deep enough inside, the sun is blocked out completely. They would be like self driving cars that avoid each other with right of way, fly defensively, and assume other aircraft won't cooperate. You have to have some foolproof transponder/beacon system, preferably one that works with line of sight and no internet. Somebody has to decide what the GPS routes and fences are going to be though.

Good luck with that. Flying cars have been invented plenty of times. Each time has been blocked by miles and miles of red tape. Got a driver’s license? Cool, everyone does but how about a pilot’s license too? Don’t think you can land or that thing everywhere either! Doesn’t the aircraft also have to be certified by the FAA or something before it ever goes in the air? Then since it’s a car too you need to clear a million regulatory hurdles to make it roadworthy as well.
