Ignore the price in image related. I bought mine on a 'first purchase' discount deal thing. For the price I wasn't expecting much. I bought it as an experiment to see how legitimate they are, as the storefront claims to have sold 5k units and it has a high review score. Tried F3 (fake flash finder) on Linux mint and it seems to crash at 32GB, and re-writes over existing data once it hits that point. I guess it has hacked firmware. Serial Number is 76E8-CACF. To good to be true, I suppose. Sad how there are like hundreds of listings of USB flash devices like this on Aliexpress. Ah well, that's why I went for the cheapest one.

I bought it half expecting it to be fake. I was not disappointed. Only spent $1.60 with free shipping. I guess I donated to China, to help keep the country alive for another 2 seconds.

yeah, the delivery was pretty fast on it, given that it is Aliexpress. I have no idea what the actual upload and download speeds are, given that it clearly has hacked firmware. I keep seeing these drives appear in large quantities on AliExpress over the last year. It is quite the epidemic. Took a tiny risk to see what these really were. I have no idea how to hack with the firmware... not even sure why they would sell these with a 2TB claim. Probably best to just buy a cheap 32GB USB stick from a local convenient store or something... and even then... why, for 32GB?

once it goes over the 32GB mark it does a 'roll over' and overwrites the oldest data on the thumb drive. I suppose I could just partition it at 32GB and use it that way.

I'm not a 'flash memory' bench mark kind of person. I would have to look up the software to do that. F3 kinda crashed when it hit 32GB, and didn't give me a read/ write speed.

Turns out that the GNOME Disks Utility has a built-in benchmark. So I used that instead. It is just USB 3.0. Not pretty. I don;t really benchmark hard drives or flash drives. It is out of my wheel house, as they say.

With the discount it's not a bad price for a 32 GB drive, even a pretty low quality one. If you can't find the tools to correct the reported capacity, just partition it to just shy of the real capacity and you should be good. You still shouldn't trust it with the only copy of anything important though. It's likely a piece of shit drive.

Also, that serial number just looks like a FAT32 volume serial number. These are assigned randomly when a disk is formatted.

If 1 person bought a large capacity Fanxiang drive and it was legit, that is relevant. One company isn't likely to manufacture both legit and fake large USB sticks, so Fanxiang is likely legit, though it says nothing about quality, speed or durability.
