Diminishing returns won't really allow it but if I ever moved on from my ER2SEs, what should I get? At most i'd just switch to the XRs because I need that bass boost for transit and I heard the vent would help prevent ear pressure. Like completely blocking out external noise? I don't get that at all. I usually use smaller tips and sometimes medium. Mediums sometimes block more but also start to hurt after some time.
Also tried foams those block the most but good foams are expensive and have to be replaced.

Rosefinches from KBEAR arrived and wow, they're actually amazing for the price
the bass is powerful, the mud/bleed isn't as bad as the graph shows, granted it's warm and still quite muddy but the vocals aren't veiled, even male vocals in bass-heavy songs like Watercolor by Pendulum remain controlled and precise (at least for a $5 shitbud), whereas female vocals are even less affected by the bass boost, so all the weeaboo shit that doesn't suffer from excess warmth, for example Seventh Haven by Seventh Sisters (actually KZ from livetune in disguise), is very enjoyable on the 'finch, expecially after swapping the stock tips for spinshits W1 that make the bass just a tad more gentle and a lot more controlled and tactile
the mids have just a bit of contrast that keeps them from being devastated by the monstrous bass and makes them V-shaped in a peculiar way, but no sane person buys the rosefinch for neutral mids
the treble is better than expected, with nice saturation and energy, proper texture on cymbals and even a hint of air, which is noticable in Tourist in Paradise by The Rippingtons and Small Talk by Scritti Politti - even if no one will buy the 'finch for treble in particular, it's there, works well and makes great counter-balance for the bass
overall it gets a big rec from me, as a Chu 2 owner for almost 2 years already I'd consider KBEAR Rosefinch a worthy sidegrade that trades a bit of mids clarity for that extreme bass if that's if you want

No not "completely," sound travels through physical barriers. But as far as space between the silicone ear tips and your ear canal, there should virtually be none. This is the proper acoustic environment and consistent sound from IEMs. If you don't wish to wear them in this way, just stick to earbuds that don't seal. Or whatever, it's more or less the same thing. If you listen that way, the sub bass falls off a cliff and there are more/larger "unintended," resonance peaks in the upper frequencies.

I have an ipod touch 7th generation 256 GB and I'm considering getting a Snowsky echo mini.

Ipod touch can't play flac but it it can play alac.
I have converted some flacs to alac using foobar2000 and put them on the ipod touch.

Would the hardware in a snowsky echo mini "improve the audio quality" at all by just letting me put the flacs directly or would it be a downgrade?

Do the DACs in the snowsky make any difference?

if you're really listening to a library >200GB, it's gonna be a pain in the ass to browse through files with the echo mini interface. it's better suited as a mini shuffle player.
as far as flacs / audio quality, the difference is indiscernible by most people, and there is a whole list of other factors which can be considered as more significant. dacs in the echo mini are fine, commonly used nowadays, pretty good performance.

i have heard many. the usb-c (dacamp) ends of many other iems are noisy, buggy, or both. tanchjim iems are in the upper percentile. if you have a problem with the sound, a main selling point of the dsp is that the sound is adjustable via app and even browser. if you want more bass just add it, it persists on the usb-c end

If less than a month, where did you order from? If it's not your user error, a return should be simple through most websites.
Any gear can malfunction or be defective from the box irrespective of price.
Moondrop offers various products such as Rays or standalone USB-C 2-pin cables (attach to any standard 2-pin IEM), but I do not recommend Moondrop's DSP for many reasons (software bugs).
Simgot has some DSP offerings.
FYI these companies are literally under the same Chi-Fi umbrella company anyways and this is how most of Chi-Fi is. They are some of the better mainstream ones anyways though, if you're looking beyond them it often is worse quality.

I am the same guy. The sound quality wasn't the problem, I was totally satisfied. The main issue I had was that the connector broke. I should have seen that coming since the headphones were dirt cheap but they could have at least lasted a bit longer than that, you know? ALAC is lossless like FLAC, there is absolutely zero difference in audio quality.
Dunno about the analog output of the iPod, can't find measurements. I'm sure it's less powerful, but should still be more than enough to blow your eardrums out with almost all IEMs, so that most likely won't matter to you. Output impedance might be slightly higher, which could make a difference with IEMs that are extremely sensitive to that. Otherwise (noise, distortion, frequency response), there probably aren't any audible differences.
