It was a simple file sync utility. You'd insert a diskette, and the files in your briefcase would be copied to it automatically.

In those days the internet was not 'always on', and in many cases wasn't available. This let you move your working document set between machines (i.e. office and home) as needed. Access times from the floppy itself were too slow to edit directly on the media, so syncing it to the machine's hard drive was necessary.
