How can I automatically append ?a to the end of the URL each time I open 4cdn links in a new tab?
Semi-recently, 4chan started compressing images. This makes it impossible to reverse-search the image in the archives.
You can bypass this by adding ?[characters] to the end of the URL. I just type ?a. Like so:
https://i.4cdn.org/g/1762213653794974.jpg 51.1kb
https://i.4cdn.org/g/1762213653794974.jpg?a 60.1kb
I've been opening each image I want to save and adding ?a, but I save a lot of images, and it's becoming too time consuming. I'd like a way to automatically add it.

They're using cloudflare's lossless compression; it doesn't change any of the output image/pixel data (metadata manipulation and recompression for PNGs since they're lossless) so the archives should still work properly
Image md5s are based on the pixel values not the file hence this shouldn't change anything

rsync or some recursive checksumming utility.
Checksums don't apply to directories, only to individual files. One notable exception is bittorrent hashing which does account for differences in names and locations.

what the fuck x3
There's no way this will be good for 4K60+ even if I get a 64-core
What should I use to losslessly encode my footage?
I want as much compression as possible regardless of encode times (long encodes is fine) but I want the end result to always be fast and relatively efficient/lightweight to play back, so I can for example view the damn videos on a laptop without worrying about it. If that means I can only cut their size down to 50% or even 75%, that's fine with me.
Lossless is required or I'll just leave them RAW and buy more storage.
Filesize isn't paramout, usability is.
Would encoding 265 with a different preset like Slow instead of Placebo affect playback requirements or does that only slow down the creation?
Not all of my shit has to be lossless. Just some.
I have a bulk of other stuff I'm fine doing lossy, but it has to be 444. Any recommendations on a codec for the lossy stuff? AV1 is a fucking disaster I want no part of, so I was thinking 264 but then I found out that's only YUV, my sources are RGB and preferrably I'd like to keep them that way.
it's been awhile since i've done this, why would i be getting an error like

(You) are your CPU. The central processing unit. You do all the work.
Your brain memory is your on-die L1 cache.
What you have written on a post-it note is your L2 cache.
What you have written in a notebook is your L3 cache.
The book on your desk is your RAM.
The books on your bookshelf are your SSD/HDD.
Your local library is the internet.
RAM exists to let you flip through pages without having to walk to the bookshelf every time.
RAM isn't as good as your short-term memory, but can hold a lot more than it can.

Right so, to put it simply like the other anon said RAM exists because the CPU needs more memory to work with. BUT the CPU itself can't hold a lot of memory addressees. That is how HDD and RAM come into play. They act as buffers so the CPU can store and use more Memory addressees. Because now the CPU can a management technique that is called "Virtual Memory". Which means that the CPU can actually use a LOT Of new memory addresses than it actually has.
So all the other forms of memory (Primary memory, secondary memory) all act as a way to expand the available addressees that the CPU can use.

the difference is between "continuous" ai and vibe coding
continuous ai involves autocomplete and reasoning about code you already wrote
vibe coding is just telling the model to write something
just disable autocomplete and use a local model, e.g. gpt-oss:20b, for code review
if you use any code written by the model, then you need to actually read it and edit as needed
a good trick is to first prompt the model to ask you 10 yes/no questions about the code

Yeah it's cache
I have a 3 monitor set up on my PC with a 4070 super as my GPU and it's causing problems.
My main monitor is 165 Hz while the other two are 60. One of these monitors is also a tablet I use when working on projects so I don't have it plugged in all the time. While working on a bigger project I left my tablet plugged in for a while and it caused my GPU to crash. I tested multiple things to find the exact cause triggering the crash. I did a clean install of my drivers for the card and the tablet, as well as changing the resolution between monitors to see if that was triggering it. Eventually I narrowed it down (at least I believe so). For some reason having 3 monitors plugged into my gpu at the same time is raising the temps of the card to 50C and this is without running games or anything that requires the GPU. When it climbs to 50, it crashes. the GPU fans ramp up and I get a black screen. The system is still running though. This doesn't happen when using only 2 monitors which is why I never knew this issue existed. My idle temps stay at 36C for hours and there are no crashes. 50C is not nearly as hot as this card can get though and when stress testing and playing games the card can stay at 75C for a while with no crashes. It's also only a little over a year old.
tl;dr: For some reason my 4070 super crashes at 50C when idle and this only happens when 3 monitors are plugged in at the same time. What can I do to troubleshoot this?

It will look worse because no matter what your visual acuity is, the source material won't be rendered properly.
Set your 1920x1080 monitor to something like
1600x900 resolution and move 10% further back to compensate for "pixels per degree" equality.
The image will still suck ass, and that's because at the panel itself, the image has been destroyed by shit scaling.
The same will happen with 1080p content on a 1440p screen. Always.
Anyone saying otherwise is a liar and a shill.
1440p is alright for games because 4K is still "too hard" for modern slop games to render at, and because games render at whatever res you choose.
1440p is also good for desktop usage because it has some more screen real estate at 100% scaling.
No media on this fucking earth is 1440p, so 1440p is a TERRIBLE resolution for media consumption.
About the closest viable use for a 1440p screen in the wild for video viewing would be viewing a grid of CCTV footage at 4x720p in a 2x2 arrangement or an enlarged 1920x1080 view + multiple 640x360 alternative angle feeds on the same display, which definitely isn't what you're doing.
All your tv/movies/anime and even shit like watching youtube videos will be MISERY with a 1440p display.

Every electronic device from Lidl broke after a few uses so I wouldn't touch their batteries.
Those specs seem better than the best NiMH cells on the market and I honestly doubt that Lidl has a magic factory building better Eneloops for less than half the price.

Any opinions on Proton Unlimited? Noticed it's discounted for Black Friday right now so thought about getting a year's worth, the parts I'd be interested in would mostly be
>VPN - This is #1 I think, I wouldn't use it all the time but useful for getting around region blocks like on DLsite and whatnot which is annoying with the free version since it selects country by gacha
>Drive - I don't need it need it, but I use Dropbox right now as a free user and the 500GB storage could be a decent upgrade maybe, but I could use some feedback on how it compares
>Mail bridge - More of a minor thing but I always was annoyed this is restricted to paid users only since I'd like to connect my Proton account to Thunderbird
If there's any better deals for VPN+Storage I'm not that worried about the email thing though, or if anyone has any opinions on the subject in general

Your CPU is probably broken. Try downclocking it so see if it works. If it does then you have a shit CPU.
My family business partner (one of 5) is using ChatGPT to get legal advice for the business and she's bringing up these retarded legal concerns at meetings and it's wasting our time. Are all boomers this fucking braindead or should I genuinely be concerned for her? This is the latest in a series of questionable alarms she's raised. A few years ago she showed us some viral video of a homeless crazy person and was convinced it was a distant relative of ours and thought this was evidence we needed to intervene.

Really need some help with this if anyone can.
The crash is now happening randomly and more often after changing my monitor set ups. So I think it's my drivers but i don't know which.
To clarify:
>system doesn't crash
>GPU black screens my monitor
>GPU fans start running
>It's a brand new card
>there is no lag or artifacts during games or even during general use
My guess is right that this is a software error right? At least all my googling regarding that error seems to suggest it but there are multiple solutions and sources of the error. Some are saying the latest Nvidia drivers are unstable and rolling back fixed it and others are saying it could be windows.
PC is using:
>windows 10
>RTX 4070 super
>on board graphics uses amd drivers (could this be an issue? When I installed my amd cpu drivers, it detected that I needed the amd drivers so I just installed them)
All of these are on the latest version. Any suggestions on what I should try?

The major benefit to not being a vibe coding retard is that you don't have to prompt and prompt and prompt, you can just look at the ai slop and go "faggy bot tried to suggest 10.10.0.1/24 for some reason kek".

Is there any reason to not rely on external HDs, thumbdrives, etc? I really don't want the hassle of slotting in a new hd frequently when I run out of storage. Only ask because I see externals go on sale rather frequently and usually have deep ass discounts, making it a decent financial move.

Usually it makes the most sense to invest in a set of drives so you can build a RAID with a parity drive for easier recovery when a drive dies. You can start simple with the external though, and later on you'll have an idea of how much you're actually storing and that can help you buy the right amount of storage for your RAID.

I tried to open the SIM slot.
The metal thingie used to open it got bent.
I tried another one of those. Now the spike got torn off and is stuck in the SIM slot.
How do I get it out?

So I have a stupid question. Is there a way to undo inspect element changes withing firefox? I may have clicked hide or something, and as a result some stuff does not work. Is there a way to check what changes I made on inspect element in firefox?
My only option right now is undo the changes or re-install firefox on Ubuntu. My plug ins are simple adblocks and ublock, and 4ChanX script. I can save those setting, and re-install it all, but I'm curious if there is a repository for changes made to elements either in native firefox or within Ublock.

re-install firefox?? if you're talking about the browser's built-in dev tools, any changes made will not persist when you refresh the page or perform any page load like following a link. The only exception is when using the browser's back/forward within one session, sometimes the browser will restore the state of the previous/next page. You can just refresh the page to clear that.
If you're talking about an ad blocker feature, that's a different story, changes are kept in the ad blocker's configuration, which should be easy to access or change.

Anyone know the causes as to why my audio optical output on my motherboard stops working? It still has the light.
I managed to duplicate the problem by watching YouTube videos and skipping through the video. And it would randomly stop working, but not all the time. I've only done it twice. And I can 'fix' it by restarting my PC, or even by hibernating it and turning it back on. And restarting the speaker (unplug and plugging it back) doesn't fix the issue.
Things I've done to try and find the issue:
1. Made sure it's not a program problem so I tested different browsers and games, still no sound.
2. Tested the speaker and PC by using aux cables and it works. So speakers work, motherboard sound output works.
3. Replaced audio optical cable. Doesn't fix the issue. It's a tested and working cable.
4. Resetting audio drivers doesn't fix the issue.
5. Resetting the speakers, as in unplugging it and plugging it back. It doesn't fix the issue.
6. Resetting the PC fixes the issue. Until it happens again.
So it is a problem with my PC. But I don't know which one.

How do I troubleshoot slow WiFi speeds on Android? My Pixel 7a is by no means the greatest device out there but it's always met my needs. I'm wondering if there might be a bug in the latest Android 16 beta?
I get normal-ish upload speeds but my download should be way faster than this. I've already ran iperf3 in Termux to rule out an Internet issue and the problem is localised so it does seem to be a hardware or software issue somewhere. Other devices achieve fine WiFi speeds.

It MIGHT be workable as initial drives, but for replacements you want CMR or SSDs (that are not slow qlc/etc) if you feel like having a hole in your pocket
RAID4 does have a use with having a SSD for parity, but is otherwise worse RAID5

I fixed my issue and I'm posting the fix in case anyone ever comes across this post with the same issue:
Extensive googling showed me numerous people all with the exact same issue with 40 series cards. Many never fixed it but they all were using the 12 pin connector for their GPU that came with ThermalTake PSUs just like I was. So I switched it to the 8 pin connectors and problem solved. No crashes or black screens. Any benchmark test I run goes fine and all my monitors work. My wire was faulty and went bad after a year of use. I'm going to contact ThermalTake for a replacement. This looks to be extremely common with 40 series cards and this brand of PSU. If you are using your 12 pin, I'd suggest changing it before your PC crashes like mine did and you do a run around trying to figure out why.

No it just means the economy will tank and stocks will go down. Millions of boomers will have their retirement funds drop 20% in value and kvetch about it endlessly. Jobs may suffer as is typical during economic downturns, but this bubble is atypical in that the wider job market has been demonstrably shit since post-covid and it's not clear whether the AI bubble is propping it up so it will go in the complete dumpster when it pops, or whether AI is basically an insular industry that only hires chinks for $10M/year salaries and the rest of the tech industry will be completely unchanged once it pops.

The CPU works by taking numbers, running operations on them, and outputting them. It needs somewhere to take the numbers from and put them back after it's done.
CPUs typically have tiny storage areas built-in that they can use. These are very very fast because they're located directly on the CPU, but they're also very very small; you can usually only put a few numbers there, or at best a few thousand numbers.
Your hard drive (or SSD) is a huge storage area. One TB stores a thousand billion numbers. That's enough to store a lot of software and files. However it is extremely slow for the CPU to access, it can be literally millions of times slower than the CPU's local tiny storage.
So imagine you need to run a program, like say you open paint.exe and open an image file. Paint is say a 10MB executable and your image is another 10MB. To run the program your CPU has to read the instructions that make it up and process them, and then the program will try to read the image data and run instructions on that as you're editing it so the CPU will also need to fetch the data from the image and run calculations on it and output the new data for the image.
The executable and image file are both probably 100,000 times too large to fit into your CPU's local storage for tiny numbers. But if it had to fetch the data for each thing it does from your HDD or SSD, then it would be a million times too slow.
RAM is storate that sits in-between. It's about 10,000 times slower than the CPU's local tiny storage, but 10,000 times faster than an HDD, and it's also large enough to store lots of things (multiple gigabytes). So when you open paint.exe, first it loads all the data for the executable into RAM, and then the CPU can fetch small chunks of it from RAM as it executes them which is vastly, vastly faster than doing it directly from your hard drive. Then when you open the file it also first gets copied into RAM and now the CPU can load small chunks of it into its local tiny

memory and run calculations on them and output them back to RAM.
>but why not just make the hard drive out of the same stuff RAM is made out of so everything is fast
Two reasons are that RAM loses everything when unpowered, so it gets wiped every time you shut down the computer; and also it's a LOT more expensive. There have been technologies for memory of similar speeds to RAM that saves the data even without power but it's just too expensive for anyone to use.
>why not make RAM out of the same stuff CPUs have so everything is super duper fast
Also because that super fast tiny storage is also super expensive even compared to RAM. Plus it has to fit directly inside the CPU to be fast enough so you start hitting physical limits.

Nobody programs in assembly except when learning how CPUs work at university, or if you're doing some super niche embedded stuff, or if you're doing some insane HFT hyper-optimised stuff.
At university it doesn't matter, during my courses I learned on a 16-bit arduino or something. The point is to learn the general style of assembly and how CPUs and registers work.
For niche embedded shit you'll be using whatever obscure garbage microprocessor the project requires and you'll be happy.
HFT devs, well a surprising amount of them just use something like Java for 98% of the system and then arcane convoluted C++ for another 1.8%, but then for the 0.2% that may be handwritten assembly they probably don't use 32-bit. It's either going to be normal 64-bit x86 or it might even be custom FPGAs.

I've documented the network speed while it is on vs when it is unplugged (faggoty design disallows turning it off normally, power button just sets it to sleep) so I know it's the cause.
Why is this happening, and is there any way I can prevent it while still operating the TV? It wasn't always the case, and I disabled the TV's Internet connection/updates the moment I turned it on for the first time so I don't think either of those things can be the culprit.

I'm not super knowledgeable about cars but I feel like heat and soot/grunge might be factors. A fake plastic exhaust can be integrated into the surrounding bodywork without temperature considerations (the black stuff looks like plastic, there's a proximity sensor within a couple of inches of the fake pipes there), and it will always look shiny. Meanwhile look at the real pipes there, they're all grungy and dull, and I'm pretty sure exhaust is hot so you wouldn't be able to just set them directly into the plastic bodywork like that.

To be honest I never understood who the fuck buys new cars, now or in the past
>value plummets 1.5x the moment you take it out of the dealership, 2x within the first year
>cars are meant to run 10+ years, if you buy one that significantly degrades within the first year wtf are you doing in the first place
A 1-2 year old car will be massively cheaper and basically not any worse for wear. Yet enough people buy new cars to fully subsidise the used car market for everyone else.
Like I get it if you're wealthy and buying a luxury car for $200k, and it doesn't matter to you whether you're spending $200k or $100k and you value getting a new car right out of the factory. But people are buying shitty beaters for $30k brand new when they could get the same thing but three-four years old, sometimes even manufacturer refurbished and with a warranty, for $10k. They're taking out loans to do this. I will never understand.

Why does my FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT (expensive) headset keep dropping out semi-randomly? It's not just based on the distance but also based on how much I move my head even at closer distances. It's one of those USB dongle connected headsets. My bluetooth headphones do that too, but there it is purely based on distance, no randomness involved. And when they lose the connection and regain it, they don't "wake up" the screen. When the USB dongle headphones drop out and reconnect, it's as if the device itself got disconnected from the USB and reconnected, so it wakes up the "sleeping" display, which in turns makes the screen glow straight into my face as I'm trying to fall asleep while listening to my pretend parasocial VTuber friends.

You have to remember something, not all the world's economies work like in the US.
I'm from Spain and bought a brand new car over two years ago, if I wanted that same model but one of the first from 2022 since it didn't exist before that, I would have to pay either for an almost brand new car price but with 100k kilometers or a lower price for a car that's basically broken in somewhere.
I'm literally looking to buy a motorcycle, if I search for 500cc bikes the best you can get is 2k€ less for a 2016-18 model, with 30 to 50k kilometers, which is motorcycle ranges is basically like 200k kilometers in a car, why in the fucking hell would I ever buy that instead of a new one with a 5 year warranty and no possible issues or rust?

Interesting. I'm not american either but here in the UK what I said mostly holds true. I'm surprised used prices are that high in Spain, I've always assumed it was just a universal truth, guess I'm the retard.
I wonder if it's because there's no culture of retards buying new cars all the time, so the demand for used cars is much higher and therefore the prices are more in line with what you'd expect, rather than new cars having insane markup for no reason due to the retard subsidy.

I've never used the gh client, try just a normal git clone. Public repos should always work over https. Private repos need you to associate your ssh key to your github account, and then also make sure you're using the correct ssh key with git if you have multiple ones (git -c core.sshCommand="ssh -i /path/to/key" clone git@github.com:user/repo.git)

Spain, despite being the 4th biggest economy in the EU, is an extremely poor country, here the average wage is less than 1700€, and the most common wage is usually half the minimum wage, which is around 1200€ in 12 pays, let's be real, unless you inherited a house and only pay the necessary taxes, insurance and electricity, with that amount you can't afford to save the around 10k€ that a good second hand car costs.
There was an study some years ago, and the average car sold here is basically second hand, over 17yo and with low power, so having in mind that everyone buys second hand, the market is adjusted into higher prices.

Worrying about it is already a good start.
You will need a lot of self-control. IMO a good strategy is to ask the AI to explain things to you but never, ever have it write code for you. If you have to write it yourself you're much more likely to have to think through every detail forcing you to get it right or face any mistakes you might make and correct them.
Ideally the AI would a) guide you through concepts and b) form a convenient reference lookup, and nothing more.
You can also ask it to code review or comment on your code, but this already gets into dangerous territory because it can be very tempting to fall into a habit of "let me just ask the AI if what I've written is good, and if not, I'll just ask it what to change and how" which still avoids using your own brain even if you avoid asking it to actually make the changes. Maybe try asking it to guide you through some concepts but emphasize to it that you don't want to be hand-held through solutions, because you want to learn. Modern AIs are pretty smart and can hold conversations pretty well, so usually if you just talk to it like that it can follow this instruction reasonably well, though perhaps now always perfectly.

Only reason is time. If it's a small file that takes <10 seconds to compress either way then knock yourself out. But if it's something big then it may not be worth it. There are strong diminishing returns at the highest compression levels, you might end up waiting like 10x longer for a 3% smaller file or some shit like that.
And that's if your content is well-compressible in the first place, obviously I assume you're not trying to compress images or movies and shit (which are inherently compressed formats and can't really recompress more), just want to mention for completeness. If you're e.g. zipping a folder of images just to have it as one file that's easier to send, then higher compression levels would be just wasted time for zero benefit.
There may also be a small time penalty for decompressing but it's rarely very significant.

AI psychosis is a real thing, many people just never learned to not trust things and AI can be very convincing. Many boomers are particularly vulnerable because they didn't grow up in a low-trust internet, it's the same reason exploitative advertising works for example.
If someone is truly convinced of this there's generally no good way to deal with it other than just outright sidelining them from decision making. You can't reason with them. You can maybe attempt some strategies designed to stall her so she wastes her own time more than yours, like demand that she provides legal citations for every "concern" (and shut her down immediately whenever she brings up a hallucinated nonexistent one from chatgpt), maybe this could work but you'd probably also need buy-in from all the other partners to enforce it and actually make sure she's forced to follow the rule and put in the effort.

Probably. It's not super reliable but the more straightforward and "standard" the project, and the fewer unusual and moving parts, the higher the chances AI can complete it.
Also the more input you have yourself and the more closely you guide the AI, the higher the chances you can get it working and the easier debugging it will be. If you just tell the AI "build this project, go!" and then feed it back any errors for it to fix, with zero intelligent input from your part, it's going to be very hit or miss. If you ask the AI "ok design me an architecture", think it through and make sure it makes sense, then go "ok let's implement it" and go through it part by part, validating everything the AI writes and giving it feedback, the chances of success are much much greater. Basically it's a tradeoff: use AI to accelerate your work, and the more effort of your own you put in the higher the chances of success. IMO there's a very good chance you can find a sweet spot where you complete the project with way less effort than you would have had to spend otherwise, but you still understand how everything works and have a good enough handle on the code to make sure you can get a working finished product (with the AI's acceleration) rather than a buggy slopmess. But it takes some practice to figure out that sweet spot.

Most of the issues you hear are from 4090s and 5090s, so one would think a 4070 should be fine, but I guess the xx90 cards just make it burn down instantly while the xx70 one took a year which is why it wasn't in the news.
I'm really baffled as to why nvidia soldiered on with this connector for the 50 series and didn't improve it one bit despite all the reports of massive issues. They're not normally suicidally stupid, that's usually AMD's job.

Yes, single-thread performance is important in some scenarios but having a lot of cores has use cases, e.g., if you run virtual machines or containers having a lot of cores and lots of RAM makes for a much better experience.
I have an ancient Xeon workstation with dual E5-2697 v4, 18 cores each, and it runs any OS I use as smooth as silk even though single-core performance is terribly slow compared to a modern CPU (not to mention my power consumption is ridiculously high).
If you are a /gaymer/ single core performance is probably more important to you but for stuff that uses lots of threads more cores is the superior solution.

Everything is an abstraction retard. Akshually there are no microswitches, computers work by directing electrons across a dielectric layer, hurr. You can keep going. It's just not useful in any discussion, we make abstractions because they let us actually talk about things we care about rather than always having to go down to the fundamental particle level to describe anything.
The work we make the microswitches do is designed to perform calculations on numbers, simple as. If you really want to be a nigger, you can talk about inputting and outputting sets of parallel signals into the microswitches. But guess fucking what the signals will basically always encode a binary number because that's what we design our CPUs for.
>they don't 'know' anything
An abacus doesn't know what numbers are either, yet you still input numbers into it and get a number output. A hammer doesn't know what a nail is or even what motion is, you still swing it to drive a nail in. I'm glad that you're 14 and finally discovered the deep notion that inanimate objects don't have "knowledge" but it's an absolutely useless point to bring up in discussion.

Now niche hobbyist products do exist but my best guess is that a CRT monitor is a pretty huge hardware project and would require immense upfront investment, because a) it's physically huge and requires lots of big, expensive parts, and b) I wouldn't be surprised if most of the parts had no easy off-the-shelf models and you had to either assemble or order a lot of the core components bespoke. So it's probably just really not an easy thing to do as a risky niche product with no mass-market potential.
>inb4 bro CRTs are so much better at everything and--
There's two types of people that care, and that's fighting game players and autists wanking themselves to the low motion blur stats. The former is an absolutely minuscule demographic because fighting games are themselves a niche genre, and autists who would buy a dedicated CRT for one are an even smaller fraction. The latter are also pretty niche and frankly speaking I expect the majority of those would not actually want to put a gigantic CRT brick in their house if actually presented with the opportunity for one.

but here all sim cards I've seen ask you to pay a subscription to get a phone number

>impulse bought a new GPU because price dropped
>had checked length and case clearance online because too lazy to open case and measure it manually

>turns out it barely doesn't fit because of my front mount radiator
I'm retarded. So anyway my case is a fractal meshify c, the space between the front panel and frame has like 17mm of actual clearance but it will fit 25mm fans if I cut away some "structural" plastic beams which I've seen a bunch of people do using that case. Pic related is what I'd be doing. Doesn't change the external look of the panel in any way just maybe makes it more flimsy which I don't care about.
I have 4 solutions:
>1. Use slim 15mm fans, keep the front panel intact, hope that thermals and acoustics are still decent despite lower CFM and static pressure at lower RPM
>2. Use MORE slim 15mm fans, push+pull config to gain back static pressure, one set of fans moved between front panel and frame to get the 10mm clearance I need
>3. Use current 25mm fans, DIY a hole like pic rel in the front panel beams.
>4. Return the GPU then kill myself

Not really because /media is usually just an empty space for an automounters to create mount points, and anything that gets mounted there doesn't isn't effected by the permissions on the underlying directory.

Why would you use /media? /media is meant for the automounter to mount CD-ROMs and USB drives and basically anything that's not mentioned in /etc/fstab. Media means storage media in this context, not audio/video.

This decouples the design from the implementation, just like you have frontend-backend separation in many websites.
The car designers can make it look however they want without having to worry about technical constraints.

I never paid money for an inkjet, but at some point found one on the kerb. Disassembled the print head, cleaned it, bought new ink, and printed a couple pages. A few weeks later tried to print again – it was clogged. Same procedure, all good.
When this happened the third time I extracted a few internal parts and threw it in the bin, it's just not worth spending the time with this bullshit.
My laser Brother is ready to print in 30 seconds after having been unplugged for months and I never have to worry about it.
