I got you anon

This is Emmanuele Bassi, one of the maintainers of either GNOME or GTK, im still not sure what relation these two things have to do with one another, but whatever

his github username as customary takes first letter of the first name and last name, which results in "ebassi" which is funny and sounds like ebussy (internet meme that is comprised of making portmanteaus with the word "pussy", like boy + pussy = bussy (gay man ass))

he's known for condescending arrogant snarky replies to gitlab issues where users express desire for certain features to be implemented in GTK, to which he dismisses them and says "What's the use case?"

one time a GTK / GNOME user complained that all the text looks blurry after an update. This valid factoid was met with passive-aggressive bitching from ebussy and other individuals, particularly ebassi said "What makes you think sharpness is a metric?"
a guy with much more patience for open source autismos than i have, later came in and explained in great detail and in polite manners what the issue is, and i think they actually had a nice conversation and possibly fixed the problem. But the initial response of incredible arrogance and dismissal is funny (to make fun of)

Notable quote also ascribed to him but was actually said by some other faggot: "This discussion is getting heated, I recommend slowing down".

Anyway, use case for this thread?

That isn't reddit spacing. >>107103474 is. Reddit spacing is being used to markdown, what reddit uses for comments. Markdown replace's a single \n with a space. This is not useful in commenting but is useful for writing longer documents. You can write one sentence per line so git diffs show changes at the sentence level. Otherwise it'll just say something changes in this 200 word paragraph which isn't too useful. People used to typing on reddit will learn to double space between header and content (i.e. reply link or a quoted line) because on reddit this leads to the correct line break after the header. But 4chan doesn't eat the first \n and therefore you end up with an unintended empty line. No one would be dumb enough to say you are not allowed to use blank lines to organise writing. The pic given is using blank lines for formatting. This is not the same and there is no issue with it.

Not it doesn't. They correct way on plebbit is to leave 2 spaces at the end and then a single newline. Double space starts a new paragraph. But nobody knows this because plebbitors are retards.

Yep, "what's the user case for X" is not exactly an ebussy exclusive. Even sentences like "I don't know what Xfce is or does, sorry" attributed to him when he never said that actually. But his attitude made him popular enough people attach everything a gnome dev ever said that's hilarious to him.

Best of ebassi quotes:
>What makes you think that sharpness is a metric?
>Please, don't leave comments if you have nothing to say.
>"Feel free to work on it" doesn't imply "whatever MR gets submitted will be merged", you know. If you have nothing constructive to add to a conversation, don't leave comments.
>This issue found its way on a known hostile place, and we're now seeing it being brigaded by people who have reading comprehension issues. I am going to lock this issue temporarily, to avoid even worse takes.
>It is entirely inconsequential to GTK what other projects do.
>I'll repeat this, for the very last time: do not leave comments unless you are willing to work on this.
>Any additional comment asking for other people to work on this will only result in this issue getting locked.
>Just opening a new issue with "discussion" doesn't mean I want to relitigate this issue until the thermal death of the Universe.
>No: I don't want to support playlists in Amberol.
>It's not a public war, because there's nothing from my side. It's your own personal, one-sided obsession, and I don't plan on participating in your delusions. Go away.
>There are no contributions to accept, and I would never accept them from you, after the crap you pulled last year, which caused your GNOME account privileges to be removed. Now go away.
>Channers be malding
>For you, and your very specific, unknown use case.
>We can keep dancing around all day, but it's clear you're not listening to me, so it's really unproductive for the both of us.
>Please, grow up.
>This isn't really helpful. If you want to ask a question, it helps to write down what your issue is.
>Thanks for your valuable feedback.

NOT ebassi:
>This issue is getting a bit heated. I recommend slowing down
>That's your misinterpretation.
>And I have no idea what XFCE is or does sorry.

Not the correct way. It's an alternative to doing the same thing but I don't know why anyone would do it like that. It's more of something that technically works because of the way markdown handles whitespace.

Why would you want to do that way? 1. hitting enter twice is easier. 2. An empty line between paragraphs is easier to read in your text editor. 3. Unless you turn on visual clutter by setting your editor to show invisible characters, the final result is dependent on whether there are spaces you can't see at the end of a line or not. 4. My text editor automatically strips whitespace at the end of lines because there is never a time I want actually want spaces that aren't at the start of a line or between two words.

Using the regular editor or the markdown editor? When I used it the comments were only in markdown but then I guess with the normalization of reddit in like ~2015ish people who don't know what markdown was started joining and were too inept to figure it out so they added a "fancypants editor" which I believe has been the default sense but you could switch back to the markdown one if you were more familiar with that. The newer comment editor is just a layer on top of markdown to allow you to comment more like how it would work in like word or whatever. So I guess newer redditors wouldn't reddit space

Ebassi is one of the core members of GNOME. He has developed a reputation for being very strict with what gets shipped or not, filtering most feature requests by asking people what the use case is.

This questions is generally applicable and people love to parrot it because it makes them feel smart, like when engineers ask "is this scalable?" or "is this idempotent?" but in reality only leads to cognitive biases being reinforced.
