What's the best application for image and photo editing that isn’t from Adobe? Pixelmator Pro looks pretty neat, but Affinity 3 is now free and feels a bit too heavy for simple editing, resizing, etc.

idk if it's me being used to photoshop but affinity was one of the most counter intuitive pieces of software I have ever used. it's like everything has to be done differently than photoshop just for the sake of being different

While I'm unaware if it's the best, it seems decent. If you're on a legacy system (ex: non-AVX CPU), you may wanna consider an older version for better performance. I use 4.3.11 because it's the first one with a complete dark theme. If you don't require dark title and menu bars, you might be able to use an earlier one. If I recall right, every release I scanned on VirusTotal came up clean (0; green).

Apple now has enough applications to sell a CreativeCloud-like subscription.

Think they'll go that way?

You can use Affinity V3 without an account, use that
