With the Krita plugin, you can inpaint on a separate layer and just erase the halo. For most gens, erasing up to the nearest outline or color change is sufficient. That's what I usually do.

Yes, but it feels kinda weird to me that the "quality" or "liveness" of an image doesnt come from the genner. Now what I did was mark with green the tags that show up in the image. The things that got prompted as a bonus were :

cowboy shot
the color of the hair,
the color of the skin,
the smile style and eye style that is not generic anime(this could be Lora),
the flowers in the back (this could be Lora),
she has the backpack hanging on one shoulder,
that the backpack has pins,
she has the jacket half open,
she has the tie undone,
the bubbles (though that must be the AI picking up the "bubble tea" tag)

For most I recommend ReForge.
I imagine that lora would work fine so long as you're using an SD1.5 checkpoint (since that lora is for SD1.5), but would give the anime a strong sense of semirealism which some like, some don't like.

I got a problem from 2 threads back where my custom samples JSON stopped working in Krita and before I wipe everything and start over, anyone tried keeping all the tags, loras, checkpoints, samplers in Comfy workflow and using Krita as a node for output? Then do all inpainting and fixes inside that Krita node, and when I need different samplers or models or tags swap them in Comfy instead of fucking with Krita's settings.

No, maybe I expressed myself badly. What I'm saying is if you use this as reference, when genning once you have the image you take the head of your reference character and use its proportion to measure some limbs. Sometimes when you put a char sitting on the floor the ankles can extend until they make contact with the floor. Sometimes even some tags like very aesthetic make the character's limbs elongate to make them look more slender.

You can inpaint at higher resolution than your image. It's called inpaint only-masked in a1111/forge and you can pick resolution higher than the area you are inpainting to get better details. In comfy there are nodes for it (all of them suck though holy shit).

I'm more convinced checkpoint updates are subjective and only good for new characters or artists. This one is from a shitmerge of a shitmerge that came today and left to right is supposedly newer to older. I don't see any difference especially without a prompt to check what the model actually followed

These use Illustrious checkpoints, not Pony. Pony is pretty outdated these days, though I have a couple Pony checks so I can use certain loras. I recommend something like WAI (I prefer version 11, apparently the newest one isn't very good) as a solid, middle-of-the-road checkpoint to start with...

When inpainting, the model only sees whatever slice of the image you're passing it (your mask plus some context padding around it). It doesn't see anything else in your image, but it will still follow your tags regardless.

So if your mask is just the hand but you have a prompt of 'big tiddy fox girl', the model thinks "The tags say I have to draw an entire woman here, but all I see is some weird fleshy blob, what the fuck is this. The tags say long_hair so I have to put hair somewhere. The tags say yellow_eyes so I have to put eyes somewhere. I'm going to transform this into an entire woman because the tags say 1girl and I don't see the 1girl anywhere."

If you increase your padding to also include the actual character, but keep the mask at only the hand, then it thinks "Ah, there already is a 1girl here. The tags say long_hair and yellow_eyes, but those already appear in the picture so I don't need to add them. The mask seems to be around a hand, I can tell because the arm connects to it and I can see its positioning with respect to the rest of the image, so I can focus on that."

The issue is that the bigger the padding, the less brainpower the model uses on the specific masked area, so you don't want to go too far. And padding is generated as a box in all directions, but sometimes you care more about some direction than other. Like maybe left of the hand is the character and you want the model to see that, but right of the hand is a fucking tree or something that would offer no information.

A trick here is to use two separate masks: the actual mask for the hand, and then 'mask' that is just a small pixel dot somewhere in the direction you want to expand. So you mask the hand, and then add a pixel left of the head, so that the context expands left towards the character but not right towards the tree.

Alternatively, keep denoise low, which limits how much freedom the model has to change stuff.

I'm confused about the pixel trick for directional padding expansion. Since padding expands uniformly in all directions from any masked area, how does adding a single pixel mask elsewhere actually create directional context?
If I mask the hand and then add a pixel mask to the left near the head, won't each mask just get its own circular padding that expands in all directions? How does this create a directional expansion toward the character rather than two separate padded regions?
