The US is post capitalistic, if you create the correct scheme that includes the correct names you get a line of credit without questions and you can go full retard for years.
ie. Startups™ can leverage by ×5 - ×10 times by simply stating on media and with lawyers "I'll give you 10% of my company if you give me XXXX of money". Money that doesn't need to be in cash or credit, just a promise after X time and so on, by the 5th iteration you have a chimeric mass of Startup×VC-bullshit, backed by the current flavor of Sillicon Valley Bank, commercial papers and promises of co-expenditure for the next decade.
The US isn't compensating for real and substantial creations but for "heuristic speculation" (aka bullshiting as much as possible and using media to create hype and hide the reality, they aren't sparing in expense of trust/truth/future if that means more profit and avoid an implosion)

And you just have to see Nvidia to understand why a reference point (a company that actually delivers) can end absurdly overvalued in 1 year, because everybody around Jensen is mentioning his company, Nvidia just happen to be a real company BUT not something that can justify a marketcap price bump by 10 times, from 400 billion to 4 trillion in 1-2 years...

What I want to know is what the fuck the actual government has been doing all these years with AI? You don't hear shit from the DoD or DoE begging for AI gibs, but I know 100% for a fact that they have been working on it for 35+ years now. It's just fucking weird that this isn't an actual project within the DoE, considering it's been likened to the actual Manhattan Project and DoE has metric fucktons of compute.

Its an "Intelligence" (read spy agency) stuff. Best security method against whistleblowing on illegal spy agency shit is not letting the public know what you are doing with your tools.

Google and NVIDIA are the only ones producing something that gets implemented in scientific research, as well as keeping their most pricey unfinished projects unreleased. Every other AI company can burn in hell, especially OpenAI. They produce nothing but slop generators that most people hate and they will never ever be profitable. LLMs are just laziness machines that allow lazy people to halfass their work even more then before. Video generators if it would be possible should just be banned and deleted off of the internet. 0 upsides outside of genning porn and million downsides. Invention worse then leaded gas.

if open AI can lose $12b selling their real product then the product is actually priced way higher than what they're charging. If it was actually priced above cost, and it was $5 every time you asked chatGPT something, no one would use it.
"fake product" is a stretch but it's definitely a dishonest market grab fueled by investment rather than sound business.

I'm talking about stuff way before these companies even existed. I know what they do with it (or what they want to do with it), but that doesn't answer my question of what is the state of art in glownigger AI research. The military has been researching AI since the movie War Games came out, unironically. >>107121846
So, she's not wrong. Her reasoning is exactly why this needs to be led by a National Lab and not some rich twink scammer. AI buildout is wholly dependent on the government being involved on the ground level, especially since they want to power most of this with nuclear. If it's a national strategic interest (which it sort of is), then they should be treating this exactly like the Manhattan Project. This is the shit the DoE and our national laboratory system was literally created for. I would also bet if there is classified advanced AI research, it's being used for what we all thought AI would be used for (materials science, drug discovery, etc.) and not what AI is being used for now (making people dumber, propaganda).

Same with a bunch of other shit that you hear absolutely zero about. It's weird they want to pump all this money into the private sector for something that is so defense-centric ingr mind of the government without oversight by someone that does that sort of thing (like the DoE). the 80s were the peak of Asia's state corporate protectionism.
Japan, Korea, and China, more or less in that order, used their governments to set industrial policy and essentially subsidized their industries using the power of the entire nation in order to compete with the US.
Reagan-era offshoring and technology transfers didn't help the situation either.
It was in fact in that era that the delusional concept of America transitioning to a service-based economy was born. This globalist lens was also often explained as "free-market capitalism where countries all do what they're best at"
In reality, that globalist delusion only applied in a world where countries are not enemies.
As a result, that service-based economy only exists for about half of the country while the other half fights over the scraps of a former industrial economy that was moved to a hostile country and is never coming back.
