What causes this?
You know Linux is free, right? It's also not bloated, unlike Windows. Leave the lagginess of Windows behind. Leave the astronomically high RAM usage of Windows behind. Leave the constant registry editing behind. Leave the manual driver configuration behind. Everything just works on Linux.

If I were to take a legitimate guess, it would be because most people are used to Windows, and have it preinstalled.
There's also the stereotype that I believed until recently, that Linux is a barebones OS that doesn't work with anything and you need a degree in CS to connect to wifi. The truth is, the vast majority of people can run something like Linux Mint without any issues. This also connects with the first part, while Windows is a POS, it also works with the vast majority of software.

So in short, it's just the old stereotype that's in the way (IMO)

no, Linux doesn't "just work".
I'm staying on win 10 forever.
and inb4 you start saying it, I was on Win7 YEARS after everyone moved to 10.
and I only switched to 7 after 2000 was completely dropped by steam.

Except Windows takes forever to check for updates, will usually fail to return an update even if you can read the fucking news to verify that one exists, and at the end of the day when you hit "Update and Shut Down" it just restarts your computer.

You forget also the software that goes out of its way to not work in linux even under translation software like wine, such as the likes of Fortnite and LoL for neets and the Adobe suite and powerBI for wagies.
Minimal in quantity, but those few are big in popularity.
>>107120884
You don't have to with linux either. Update manager, click install updates. I've never touched the command line for that in years of using linux.
Also the UI or lack thereof is not how windows updates waste time, not sure why you imagined that. Its the forced restart crap.
With linux I install it in the background with no restart needed, just a small warning on update manager of more or less "for this this update to really take effect a restart is needed, do it when you can"

That's why I said "most users". Didn't know fortnite was one of those. Hopefully more Linux adoption will make them see it as an untapped market

Yeah, I've been using Linux for like 9 years and have only *had* to use the command line like twice and that's for doing fairly advanced stuff, just installing and updating software is very easy these days with software manager and update manager, and the thing that really surprised me after being used to windows is that it just works, and promptly, and actually gives the user relevant feedback to let them know what's happening rather than some patronising as fuck "working on it" or "getting things ready" message than modern Windows does.

I just switched to Linux Mint from Win11.
The problem so many things require the use of Terminal, Everyday users will not deal with that.
Just to change the scroll wheel, the fucking scroll wheel, takes many terminal codes.

That being said, It's really fast and nice OS but not for sheep.
Anonymous No.107121224 [Report] >>107121240

Mint is extremely outdated. If your distro has Plasma 6 you will never have to look at a terminal.

His question was "proof?", and SpyBot AntiBeacon existing just to fix all the telemetry issues proves just that, in case he doesn't know to wireshark his shit and audit the startup pozz with autoruns. Not exactly sure what this retarded denial is all about when you can google "windows 7 telemetry" and get a billion pages telling you the exact same thing.

Linux has inconsistent support and shit just breaks for no apparent reason. I don't want to need a certification just to figure out why my wifi stopped working.
And to make matters worse, if you bring any of this up, Linux niggers show you why nobody would ever want to be associated with them.
