Is AI determined to destroy everything in its path? Everyone complained about the crypto bubble but the AI bubble has been 10x worse for GPUs, memory, electricity prices, the job market, economic stability, basically everything in the world.

Why would you ever buy Chinese ram? Taiwanese ram is already unstable enough as it is running at its labeled spec with more than 2 ram sticks. Chink ram is just going to be completely fake specs with the worst binned chips they could possibly sell you.

You already answered your own question.
If you care about a remotely stable PC, you aren't running XMP/Expo. In which case it really doesn't matter what RAM vendor you use because they aren't binning JEDEC spec modules.
Buying memory thay is already rated for a certain speed from the DRAM vendor and putting it on a PCB isn't a hard task.

The same kit was ~$420 a month and a half ago. The 192GB 4-stick kit was $800 about the same time, and it's now $1700. I've been tracking 96GB and above DDR5 kits price and availability daily since the beginning of the year.

The funny thing is, it had been known that AI-centric firms were buying up as much server grade RAM as they could get earlier in the year, but prices on consumer grade stuff didn't budge. But a few weeks ago a news story mentioned that OpenAI was buying up RAM (obviously not consumer grade though), and literally the next morning prices were up +60%, and up +100% within a week. They're now +110% vs the same price in September. IMHO retailers are just trying to see what the market will bear ahead of the holidays.

I'm so mad at myself. I was going to buy a new CPU this year and along with it upgrade my ram. Because it was a 32gb DDR5 4800mhz CL40 kit (back in 2022 even buying 5600mhz would have doubled the price) and I wanted something with higher clock speeds.

Well no new CPU's have launched yet (seem to launch late this year or early next year) but because of these ram prices I will just have to keep the 4800mhz kit. At least I upgraded my laptop's ram early this year for cheap.

Its happening in my cunt too so there'd have to be some high level of collusion going on. Its much more likely that ram manufacturers have stopped all orders and are raising prices to distributors/retailers

No. The real problem is laptop speaker wires and desktop case headphone jack cables being unshielded, manufacturers are too cheap to wrap them even in tin oil, making annoying noise.

This,
also the whole AI is eating DDR5 supply is dubious. They're different factories to GDDR7 & co.
The highest bandwidth available with them on top end EPIC boards is a fraction of what any GPU can deliver.
You can theoretically run large models on CPU that way but it's slow as fuck, and that's just inference. NFW they're training on them.

That's sensationalist "skirting straight up lies" misreporting. While GDDR7 is technically "DRAM" that doesn't mean DDR5 RAM will be affected. It's different plants.

Read above post again, carefully. The reason why prices are rising is reporting like this and retards like (You) spreading the FUD around.
