Tired of the hivemind? Here’s your prescribed sanity dose:

>Crinacle is not your priest.
Rankings are a guide, not divine scripture. Your ears > his spreadsheet.

>Harman ≠ perfect.
It’s a preference curve, not a law of physics. Some genres need deviation.

>Chi-Fi isn’t magic.
Great value, yes. Immune to qc issues and hype cycles? Nah.

>Graphs are not sound.
They don’t show staging, dynamics, or fit. Use your ears, not just squigs.

>BA ≠ metallic, DD ≠ perfect.
Implementation matters more than driver type. Always has.

>Meme sets aren’t the whole hobby.
If it’s not shilled 24/7, it might still be good. It's highly encouraged to form an original opinion.

>Disagreeing ≠ cope or deaf.
Let people like what they like without foaming at the mouth.

>Loud posts =/= smart takes.
Confidence without experience is just noise. Show graphs, impressions, or both.

I want to take your advice and get a single driver IEM to EQ with.

Now the question is, should it be a DD or a Planar?

I'm thinking of either the Fiio FD15 (13.8mm DD) or the Artti T10 Pro (14mm Planar).

>>107124676
tough one to answer. I know absolutely nothing about the FD15, but T10 Pro gets universal praise. instead of trying to decide what driver is best, get an idea of whether you'll be using the pos as an all-rounder, only for gaming, movies, etc. is there a particular pos you're trying to upgrade from?

DD is better at the moment, since there's only one planar driver manufacturer and they can sometimes have distortion issues. Planar FR is also less smooth than DDs. FD15 is decent but its large and blocky, I would look into a different DD like Tanchjim Nora or Bunny.

I'll be sidegrading from the Aful Explorer. I want to try a single driver IEM with a different sound.
>>107124712
That's tough. I think they both look great (on pictures).
>>107124738
The Tanchjim's look very bright on the graph though, and the nozzles are very thick (6.5mm). The Fiio's nozzle is only 5.5mm, same as the Explorer. The T10's nozzle is 6mm, which is concerning.
Anonymous No.107124872 [Report] >>107124931
>>107124801
Why are you concerned about brightness if you're planning on using EQ? The importance of nozzle diameter is also overblown, the shape of the IEM and angle of the nozzle matters more. The smallest ear tips are 10mm which is bigger than even the thickest nozzles.

I find it hard to EQ the upper frequencies, since you can't trust graphs on it. My ears aren't trained to EQ high frequencies. But EQing bass and lower mids I find pretty easy. So it's nice if the upper mids and treble is already pretty decent without EQ, and maybe only requires one small EQ adjustment, but I don't think I can manage to do 3-4 adjustments in the high frequencies successfully.

Tired of the slopypasta? Here’s your prescribed sanity dose:

>Crinacle is irrelevant
it's 2025, nobody cares about his opinions more than anyone else. He's just another YouTuber now.

>Harman can be perfect.
It might not be for everyone, but it's good enough for most genres of music and most listeners like it.

>Chi-Fi is magic.
Mainstream audio brands have the same issues with QC and unit variation, at a higher price. They have too much overhead and marketing to be price/performance competitive with chi-fi brands.

>Graphs are sound.
They don’t show staging, dynamics, or fit. But only eartip fit actually changes the sound. Driver quality matters, but FR is more important, even if you don't use EQ.

>DD = perfect.
Implementation matters more than driver type, but some have limitations. 1DD can sound consistent with different volume and impedance. 1BA sets have the same advantages, but they are uncommon. Planar and EST drivers are a meme.

>Meme sets aren’t the whole hobby.
If it’s not shilled 24/7, it might still be good. You're still gambling if you buy without any graphs or reviews, and even then you might get screwed by unit variation or stealth revisions.

This has been your scheduled break from LLM copypasta.

it's cope. their consensus FR is worthless. they think it will have the same outcome on all gear. one pair doesn't fit all music let alone all people. and you still have to eq by ear. normgroids will accept what they feel in that moment is good. trained listeners will choose what they want. the FR has to match the pos, and the pos+FR has to serve some kind of purpose. this is why IEMs sound like nobody heard them before they got packed and shipped. if nothing is tuned by ear anymore then you gotta do it yourself

Kinda want buying advice. My ear canals are apparently really short and pretty much every normal fitting pos gives me a rather annoying ear canal resonance around 9500 Hz.
pic related is just an example but that's pretty much how I hear most of my IEMs. Recessed 4-8k region and huge as fuck peak. 711 obviously won't show actual acoustic impedance so add boost to everything south of 1k to that... It's actually even more fucked inside my ears and dealing with it via EQ is kinda annoying. (if you want to know how this sound - very shrilly and very very grainy...).
So I want a good iem with the shallowest fit possible. Short as fuck nozzles too. But obviously not to an unreasonable degree. And also short and huge eartips to pair with them... Probably XL size. I'd prefer JM-1 tuning but any decent tuning without too much treble will be acceptable.
Any ideas? Price I dunno I'd want something under $100 but 200 is also fine. I'm hoping for ear resonance to be around 8500-8700 with that - where it's much less annoying to deal with.
