Looks like the API issues with K2 Thinking are fixed for the moment, I'm actually getting long responses at a decent speed and not getting cut off. Initial impression: liking it, it feels less slopped (or perhaps just differently slopped in a way I'm not yet sensitive to) than nu-Claude and doesn't seem obviously tarded yet. It's able to coherently think for a few thousand tokens and then give a twelve paragraph response when pressed.

Sadly irrelevant. Mistral does mostly business ecosystem shit now, last I heard from here was the overhaul of their dev site to an AI Studio of their own. When DS R1 was released, almost a year ago they teased something large and thinking but they're still stuck with Medium. And the latest rumors from some months ago implied they can't deliver.
Cohere is simply in the place they always were and seem to be comfortable being everyone's last choice. Same goes for AI21 Labs.
No progress, probably not enough compute.
